Today I.....

... saw 4 A2s: dark green, black, red and gray! All with the local Montenegro plates. Too bad I didn't bring my iphone to the beach to take photos

.....got my best ever mpg in "real" driving conditions. Brentwood to Stockport to Leeds. 294 miles at a true 67.7mpg measured brim to brim. That was on posh Esso diesel. Now filled up with Sainsbury's for the return journey.

It's been interesting to compare the DIS averages from my TT and my A2;

TT is driven 'enthusiastically': Average mpg is 34.4 and average speed 43mph
A2 is driven more sedately: Average mpg is 69.0 and average speed is 40mph

So that extra 3mph is costing a lot in fuel! :D

Simon.

But the TT is heavier and less aerodynamic surely?

and a larger engine?????

Return journey was done on the Sainsbury's fuel. 216 miles, 63.9mpg true.

Very similar condition except for a 20 minute jam on the M25 which would have increased consumption. Difficult to conclude whether the fuel made a difference.

Very useful information, really useful.

I believe that the super fuels only improve MPG after extended use. That is due to the cleansing of the system.
That takes time.

Shame about the traffic jam, but it does look like the consumption figures were very similar.

The standard fuel is benefitting from the cleansing that the super fuel has done.

I reckon that you can miss out the occasional tank and use standard fuel occasionally as long as you keep using the super fuels in the majority of cases.

I don't use the super fuel for performance, that is not the point of them. I use them because they keep my fuel system clean.
I don't believe that the extra cost is covered by the extra economy because as you have demonstrated, there are no significant savings.

But I prefer a clean system to help clean running and smoother performance.

Thanks for that "test" it was, as I said, very useful.

Gonzo,
Roughly what was your average speed ? did you use cruse control in order to maintain the speed or just your right foot ?

Cheers,
Paul

After getting a good deal on some 205 /40/ 17 rubber changed back to the sport wheels, pepper pots wearing all seasons and was my intention to keep them on all year round, but missed the handling and look.

A2's look sooooo much better on bigger wheels.

Today I went to Audi Slough Parts department.

One pleasant surprise was the new dipstick for my wife's car was £10 (I was expecting £18)

One nasty surprise was the Oil Level Sensor was £90 !!!

It shows you that it is always worth checking the Audi prices before you go searching therough eBay etc.

The secondhand dipsticks on eBay often go for £18 or so.

As for the oil level sensor there are lots on eBay a very low prices, but they advertise them as suitable for Petrol AND diesel A2s and as far as I know the petrol oil level senders are different to the Diesel ones and also they are a lot cheaper. So pleae DOUBLE check with the seller about fitment (especially if it is a very cheap TDI one), it may be the wrong one

So it pays to shop around.

Very nice (paint your rear brake black)

You won't be surprised that I agree with you.

The 17" sport wheels are one of the best looking wheels on an A2 in my opinion.

But there are many A2s running smaller wheels that look good too (of course)

Yanked this diesel D24 engine out of an old VW LT31. It's supposed to go in to my friends LT31 camper that has had it's petrol engine seized up.

Also found this pretty nice old Polo (mk1?). Interior was pretty neat, it had only done 80k kilometers. But it's bound for the scrap pile.

Today 1...... Did something very stupid. I test drove an i3 at a BMW dealership!!!!

BIG mistake, I now want one even more!!!!

The acceleration was superb (0-60 matching an M3 apparently!!!)

The ride was great too, firm but comfortable.

I like the way that as you lift off the throttle it slows you down (due to the regenerative brake recovery, in other words the battery is being charged and that causes the slow down a bit like F1 one cars do with DRS).
It needs you to change your driving style slightly, but it has advantages. I did the whole test drive without needing to take my foot off the accelerator and brake (apart from when the guy in front decided to turn without indicating)

I parked it next to my car and they were almost identical in length and as we all know, they are quite similar in shape and proportions.

I WANT ONE !!!

I'd be careful with some of the cheaper oil level sensors on ebay. They have a habit of not lasting too long or even leaking.
