This forum needs an 'unlike' button Darko. Wishing your A2 a speedy recovery back to full health - hope the coolant loss is a simple and quick fix.

Cheers,

Darren

A big 'unlike' button, yes. They replaced the hose and the thermostat, but couldnt figure out why the overheating came randomly after that. Since they couldn't be sure if I could drive home, I paid the bill (5000 DKK) picked the car and thought I could drive it back to Norway, at least the leakage was solved. I was wrong! It took me 3 hours to get back 10 km to the hotel, stoping every 5 minutes on the sidewalks and even taking taxi to the nearest petrol station to buy cooling fluid - it simply dissapeared somewhere and the steam was blown inside! Long story short - insurance call, Danish SOS, car rental tomorrow morning. The nice Danish SOS guy said - the top gasket (head gasket?) must be gone... To be continued. Well, with better news next week, I hope

... I got no call or reply on my emails from Audi service, so I decided to had car moved to another service, CarPeople close to Aarhus. What they found out today was that the thermostat was not opening... I'll be in Denmark tomorrow. I made a 200 calls to insurance co, Audi, Europcar, it's not easy to connect all dots when you are far away, when you have a work to do and the car trouble distract you...

... got my car back! The guys at CarPeople spent Monday and Tuesday to figure out what was the cause for blocked cooling fluid circulation!!! They have tested everything: nothing was wrong with head gasket, nothing was wrong with the water pump, nothing was wrong with the aircon...
What happened was that Audi guys, last Friday, replaced the thermostat housing and the long pipe that had a almost pipe-long crack (photo)

And that was OK.
What wasn't OK was that whoever did the job attached the bottom hose from the compession ball - the wrong way!!! He turned it the other way around!
The end of the hose that goes to the thermostat housing is bent about 90 degrees, if not more, while the other end is bent much less, about 50-60 degrees.
Mounting the 50-60 degrees end to the thermostat housing made the hose to choke the circulation, like when you choke the garden hose!

Turning the hose the right way solved the problem!

I talked to Audi, they understood that they made a mistake and if the car was left to them they would took the whole dashboard apart, as they believed it was someting with the aircon...
Than they talked to CarPeople and agreed to cover the costs of the CarPeople's job.

Washed my car nicely and waiting clean for the ferry to Norway!

Hi, I've only just read your reply Hass, thank you for the offer. I ended up getting a taxi. It was a very interesting trip home. Oil light started flashing. AA man traced it to a leaking oil pressure switch shorting out. Then a very noisy o/s rear drum. After doing 40 mph & upsetting a few motorists & truck drivers. I pulled off the motorway & came across a back street garage. Fault located to a broken Spring & clip off the shoe. Yes the wheel got very hot. Got home after a 100 mile round the houses journey. A trip I will never forget. Oh & the A2 I love it. Just needs a little more TLC by someone who cares :)

... i have had my first total A2 day. A pleasant 120 mile shimmy to Exeter and back for new head lamp, with a wave from a fellow friendly A2 on the M5. Followed by finally fitting the aero wiper, inner wheel arch, and engine under tray that A2steve let me have at bargain prices.
Am now filthy and bleeding, but happy as. Haven't done anything this practical in years.
Oh, and looks like I'll be needing a new front bumper. Have discovered that whatever took out the wheel arch liner and under tray also took a chunk of the lower bumper. Anyone got one going? In bog standard (classic :)) audi silver.

Hi "budword",

You may be as well putting a wanted ad in the market place for a silver front bumper... it may get lost in this thread

Cheers
Dave:)

Today I .....

Reconnected the water temperature sender to the bottom hose N/s of the radiator after it decided to releave it's self of all coolant and the worn clip and O ring keeping it together :(
Luckily I was close to and friends house ... And even luckier, he had a spare clip from a Corrado VR6 which was a direct fit

Changed my rear brake light bulb. That was surprisingly easy. The tricky but was trying to press the pedal and be at the back of the car at the same time to check that it was working (many thanks to the random dog walker, I accosted to help!)

Changed the oil, and noticed I likely need to do the RMS soon, change the seals in the vacuum pump and the turbo inlet. Oil leaks galore! I might just drive it to the nearest dealer and go for an A1...
