Bonnet Across Britain - the Journey

I could meet in say the Chippenham area for a handover except Weds, Thurs, Sat (15th) or Sun (16th).

Alternatively, on Saturday 15th I'm heading to the Stroud area and could do a late afternoon meet, but I wont know the specifics until Thursday or Friday.

Otherwise, we can arrange something after it's been to the west country.

Let me know your Stroud plans.. We can meet up and you can take it to the west, and then maybe alanb can take it from there...

EDIT: Scratch that. I can't do this weekend at all, but we could arrange a meeting in Chippenham, Easter Monday???

Hi Chris

Chippenham, Easter Monday is fine - mind you my car will not be clean but I will clean it before I take any photos. I'm thinking of taking it with the Westbury White Horse in the background.

I will PM you.

I couldn't think of any landmarks in/near Swindon other than the Magic Roundabout.

I think we're on for Monday.

Chris and I met in Chippenham car park for Chris to handover the bonnet. Chris is a very pleasant guy and we enjoyed a chat over coffee, both about A2s and IT.

Whilst we were having a natter about our A2s we were approached by a little elderly lady, probably in her 80s, who said: "I've never seen 2 A2s of the same colour as mine at the same time". Turned out she also had a Crystal Blue A2, having bought it new in 2002. I think she said her A2 had done about 90k. When her husband died her children said she should have a smaller car rather than drive her husbands big car, so they recommended the A2. She thought it was a very good choice and had had reliable motoring since.

I'm going to write a bit for the Wiltshire Times to see if we can get some publicity. At the moment the paper is supporting the creation of a new Air Ambulance base at Semmington, south of Melksham.

I plan to photograph my A2 with the bonnet in the next few days. Who can next take it on its journey? Sounds like it needs to work it's way down to the south west.

What a great photo. This is exactly why this was started. Members getting to meet up and have a chat about A2's :) Well done both.

Could the bonnet make an appearance at Vags or Kempton maybe, would be a great photo opportunity!
Cheers Jeff

Yes, the socials will be a good time for any member to sign the bonnet

Jeff, if you are planning to attend Vags or Kempton, could you pick up the Bonnet and take it back to Essex or even take it there from some location?

If you're willing to come this way then that's fine, I just haven't the time (or my back being up to it) to go too far. I will send you a PM of my availability next week.

OTOH, if there is someone say in Somerset or south Wiltshire then it would make more sense to go them on it's way to the south west.

Today Alan-UK met Alanb to hand over the bonnet and have a good chat about our A2's Alanb's A2 has had lots of works (6 speed gearbox, DIS, rear disks, to name a few). Nice to see an A2 with goodies, and a nice Alanb as well.

The bonnet is now in Somerset and heading to Devon.

Bonnet now making its way west to west Somerset. Hope to visit a few sites before it wends its way westbound to Devon.

Thoroughly enjoyed meeting Alan_uk a secret rendezvous in deepest Somerset for the handover, and had a good catchup about our respective A2 careers, including some interesting similar experiences. Another Crystal Blue to Crystal Blue exchange.

Updates shortly.

That would be great. I hope it works out.

I remember when Diamondhell expressed interest right at the start, I tried to find out if there are any other members on the Isle of Wight. I didn't find anyone else...but I might be wrong?
