Yes should fool it
Just watch out for the smart charges tripping out as it I’ll take a lot of current at first and some chargers trip out on either heat or excessive current
When it trips back in you are back to square one again
Only reason I mention it is I have done the same trick one of my chargers managed it ok but it’s a monster of a chargers the other diy type charger tripped out every 2 mins until the battery was about 30% charged and each time it recovered it would not start charging as it thought the battery was too flat

Would just wiring the old and new battery together for a time not equalise the charge giving it enough to be charged by the smart charger?
