Been charged lots of money for a fault found in my 1.4 ECU because of a short-circuit from one of the ignition coils ?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
A VAG specialist who diagnosed the throttle body defect and quoted me 700£ and me saying that's a bit dear but if that is going to fixed it , I accept. Was this work carried out by an Audi dealer or an independent VAG specialist, or did you just use a non-specific local garage?
Audi dealers and VAG specialists have the appropriate software to aid diagnosis of the fault from the outset.
Any garage you use should provide you with an estimate before starting any significant work.
To late now... Car is in his yard and I'll have to pay him ...Vague - walk away.
Try someone like WOM who know what they are doing and wont charge for speculative work
It seems to me you accepted the estimate of £700 for the initial work and gave the go ahead therefore you have no choice but pay this. This is just a layman's common sense opinion, you may want to obtain professional opinion, for example are you a member of the the AA, RAC? I will not comment on the figure of £700 without full details. To late now... Car is in his yard and I'll have to pay him ...
What's a WOM ?

If you have not given the go ahead and presumably the work not carried out for the £800 ECU work I would pay the £700 and reclaim the car, trailering to get it out if necessary. While £800 would not surprise me if a new ECU was to be bought from Audi, I would consider buying a used ECU probably < £100 and minutes to fit, but of course many garages will not fit used parts.
If you did not give the go ahead for the ECU work and it was undertaken consult professional opinion.
To answer your question on WOM..
I am not sure if this thread is appropriate even though I have replied, being a matter bewteen you and the garage.

The ECU repair specialist I'm going to use, is called ECUtesting.com . Have a look.Hello
just for info I also have an issue with my engine ECU on my FSI. My mechanic wants to send the ECU to a specialist to diagnose and if faulty fix. The fix would cost me £275+vat +P&P.
The fault I have is there is no voltage coming from the ECU to the EGR valve.
Just my 2 cents.
Hope I am not upsetting anyone.
Cheers.
Ah, I thought his was a 1.4...that's what this came from. That's the incorrect ECU for his car
Don't think it could damage more than how it is , to be honestPlugging that in would have damaged the car/ECU
It is an 1.4 , petrol tho ...Ah, I thought his was a 1.4...that's what this came from.
