Garage closures

I had Gracie (ex CSI90) booked in at Wheelbase Hersham this Friday to fix some of the problems they found on my visit the other day. However I got a call from them this morning to announce they’re closing for the duration of the (current) 3 week lockdown so my appointment has, for now, been pushed back 3 weeks. This was a bit of a surprise since garages are specifically exempt from the list of businesses required to close however I obviously have to understand and respect their decision. I fear this may be a portent for those of us on here more dependent than others on our specialist garages :(

Yes, I have an MOT booked in shortly and it will likely be cancelled too. My local garage said they will likely just give me an extension. I had my garage buy in the parts needed to work on the cars prior to the shutdown so hopefully they can keep working, but no bits, not fix I guess!

Local Skoda Garage are closing down from tonight, until 29th April. Hope they honour warranty work that our wagon was booked in for.

That’s a fair old timespan.

My FSI is looking like it will be locked in at the mechanics workshop for the next 3 weeks or so.

I work for a major group that includes Audi/VW ,today we closed for 3 weeks all the big groups ,Lookers /Jardine/Marshalls etc are also closing.

As the Government's 'instructions' weren't all encompassing, it seems to me that individual garages can decide whether to remain open or not. Given that industry and construction, as examples, are currently working normally, I guess a lot of smaller businesses will keep going until staff shortages because of self isolation after experiencing symptoms force the decision.

Nope. Drivers window one touch operation has failed. Needs sorting whilst in warranty.

Should be able to sort that yourself, usually procedure is in the owners handbook.Usually happens when the window has been frozen shut.
Usual method is to close manually with the switch, release switch then hold switch in close position for about 5secs.Sometime you have to repeat in fully open state.

I will give ot a go, but also have an issue from the battery. Apparently 2017 Skoda fitted a sub standard batch.

I am STILL open in Chobham . What did you need doing ?

My local tyre and MOT place are doing two MOT's for me this week. Went up earlier: fully open this week, skeleton crew next week and closed thereafter for the duration. It's a local chain of some 15 branches (I think) so I guess that goes for all of them.

My local high street was extraordinary earlier: notice after notice saying this or that shop was closed. Drove through in what, in our last life (i.e. a week ago), would have been rush hour and it was like 6:30 AM on an August bank holiday: lovely and sunny, a few people walking dogs, probably, what, seven or eight cars moving where it would normally be 150+.

I live on a main road and this morning didn't seem hugely quieter, but this evening is totally different. It did occur to me that a lot of people moving around today were probably going to work to help close down and tie up lose ends (for now hopefully).

Yes there was a batch of MOLL manufacturers battery's that have some internal fault that causes them to fail prematurely, produced mid 2016 to mid 2017.The battery issue may have caused the window one touch issue if the battery went flat whilst the window was open, this can cause the memory to be lost.

Tarkus went in for a service on Monday, came out on Tuesday with new handbrake cables but the garage was grumbling that there was a scarcity of parts and it might be difficult to get stuff other than servicing done. I don't know if it was an excuse but I will have to take it back in again to get the rear axle bushes done, they said that they could do it OK, but did not offer a date. Oh well, it's not as if I will be driving it much for the next few weeks anyway and the MOT is not until June, I hope things are back to normal by then...

My local guy said the same yesterday. They have plenty of work but 2 of their parts suppliers are closed

As I understand it your MOT now expires in December! - Andy
