Has anyone just chopped the backbox off to see how it stands performance and sound wise without doing anything else. I have a remapped 1.4tdi and hoping for better results if there is more air flow.
Or is Isolation giving me too much time to come up with bad ideas?
Cheers
They were my first go to shop, however I don’t want it to cost the earth. I’ve had another quote for from cat back just straight pipe and he says it will more than likely pass mot. So for the time being I just wanted to test the water to see if I get a gain or a loss from it before spending lots of moneyIt'll certainly be noisier and (assuming you escape the attention of the constabulary in the meantime) likely result in a fail at your next MOT.
You're right on the doorstep of Infinity Exhausts:
Infinity Exhausts - Exhaust Fitting, Custom Exhausts, Exhaust Modification - Bristol
At Infinity we custom build exhaust systems to your specification from only the best T304 stainless steel which we have been doing since 2002.www.infinity-exhausts.co.uk
Why not ask them to quote for a partial system?

That’s true, do you think it would run better with it cut off for the time being? I don’t mind if I don’t get too much noise just a little bit more kick in the lower rev range.I can see that you're young. Before you have any modification to your exhaust, you definitely need to confirm with your insurance company that it would be acceptable.

Not necessarily noisy just want a bit more air flow for performance, I’ve got an rs 2 stroke if I want noise?I don’t get it, wanting a noisy A2 is like wanting a silent Harley Davidson...
Bang onThe age of the A2’s mean that at least on the diesel variants you could remove the cat without failing an MOT and this is likely to give you a much better increase in power than removing the silencers, but why do so?
I’ve had a powerful A2 in the past (160bhp) and whilst quite good fun, the A2 just isn’t designed to be a fast car.
I’ve learned to just appreciate the A2 for what it is rather than trying to make it something it’s not.
In summary, if you want a quick/fast car, but a fast car in the first place
Please study the mot testers manual.
8.2.2.1
For diesels, helps avoid future issues

How did you do it Spike? Did it have any negatives other than noise? I 100% agree with your theory of saying the same in a few years to come however it’s a scratch I have to itch. Once I’ve tried it I won’t need to try it again. ThanksBeen there done that, wish I hadn't as my elders advised at the time........... but with cars it's a fact of life that you can only learn by your own mistakes and no one else's.
The cycle will repeat itself and in years to come he will no doubt be relating similar stories to the new kids on the block
Cheers Spike..........now where did I put my hacksaw
If you want to boy racer it sell the A2 and get a Lupo. Unmolested A2s starting to be thin on the ground. Appreciate the A2 for what it is or sell it and move on.
