Paul (@depronman) makes excellent quality replacement check straps, I think he will be along shortly.

Welcome by the way.

Thanks.. I've just replaced rivets with nuts and bolts which will do fine for now but the strap plastic is knackered after reading up the how to info.. which is amazing btw (thank you whoever put the door card removal details on!)

Door check strap replacement/upgrade is definitely a future to do job!

Today (well, yesterday), a sum of money left my bank, thereby concluding the purchase of a very special and well-known A2 that has been through the hands of two club members before me!

I will start a thread as I have big plans for this little car. Details to be revealed soon....

Used a good electric upholstery cleaner in the seats and carpets. They chose great material as it is so durable and barely shows signs of wear. Great weather for it to dry as well. Car seats yielded so much dirty water despite looking quite clean. Luckily I didn't take pictures. Yuk!

Yes, that is common, but most people (including me) are too frightened to try to release the rear section.

I just gave mine a tap as the front section just started to try and lift it. You need to lubricate the seal with the right type of grease (and just a bit of it) or it will stick again.

Even after mine was released it used to make a "gritty" noise when it opened, that was the seals sticking again, all lubed up now and working fine and silent (but the genuine grease from a dealer is not cheap!)

the rear sections opens?!?!
Is it the same switch that opens the front?
I had no idea

I assume you are referring to the OSS. You are fortunate in that you are not that from Kleynie who offers OSS repairs and service, something worth considering.

Once the front section has opened fully it then pushes the rear section open (same press of the same switch)
If your rear section isn’t opening then I suspect that it is just stuck. But the OSS mechanism on an A2 is quite fragile so please don’t force it.

if you are ever near Staines or Hrathrow airport, contact Ian (member Klynie) for help.

Friday: tripped over and bought PXYi, an eBay FSi project car from just round the corner: couldn't resist! Absolutely no idea what the plan is. None at all: esp as I've got nearly the same car already up at the yard waiting its turn.

Yesterday was putting an engine in a 911 at a customer's house. We needed a block of wood to increase the lift on the jack. I was having a scout around all over: round the back of the garage, under leaves, twigs, household bits and bobs was a set of 17" Sport wheels from his own A2 (which has been on its peppers for ages). Bit battered and the Pirelli's are old and seem distorted. Anyway, they came home with me as part payment and I'm delighted. Always loved the look of these. Also, if the TT stays, these will look well next to its 18's of the same style.

Not sure what car they'll go on: it won't be either FSI (silver) as I think sport wheels look at their best on a darker colour. The Devon car would have looked amazing on them. I guess therefore when I track down another TDi75, I'll keep these 17's in mind. Anyway a good find, but gobsmacked how blinking heavy they are! Just bonkers.
