Today I.....

I'm being careful not to look at them and will trail the car to somewhere with a smooth bit of road.

Even so, nice to have a set here as sooner or later a car will crop up that just screams out the need for them. I've got a set of the lightweight 15's here as well, so they make for the ideal Summer / Winter pairing.

Ha so the cat is out of the bag. You are doing a track day A2
Now I get it

Today I found the mod I need most...but sadly I’m very sure it’s well beyond my abilities :(
Ha, I’ve basically been near-harassing @timmus to develop a version of this for my iPhone X!
However he doesn’t have the time he’ll need to develop this into a product unfortunately.
I have just read and re-read the post to see if I could kid myself into thinking I could do it lol...
Yep, I think there would be a healthy demand for this. I would pay good money for one (somewhere around the £175 mark?), especially if it just automatically synched to the car's stereo system and you could use siri to send messages and make calls etc.
Thank you, guys.

Yes, I'm pleased to say that the iPhone dock works in exactly the way you describe. I hop in my car, and the phone automatically sync's to the stereo via Bluetooth, whether or not the phone is on the dock.

Unfortunately, because the dock was made with the 30-pin connector found on earlier iPhones/iPods, its life is now limited. Consequently, I need to develop a new version that's based around a Lightning connector. This is most definitely something I want to do - for myself and for others - but I simply don't have the time to devote to such a project right now. It could be a good project once the long winter evenings arrive, though. Watch this space, but patiently. :)

Cheers,

Tom

And all that weight will not only be included in the cars kinetic energy, but also be part of the wheels moment of inertia which one will have to "feed" at every acceleration, and then give it away to brake heat.

Everytime I've moved from 17" sports to pepperpots its been akin to adding 20bhp to initial acceleration. Staggering difference.

Are you removing the axle or trying to fix in situ? Good luck btw. I'm contemplating looking at this in future hence the interest - rear axle and front wishbones on 2003+ cars are the frustrating main rust weak areas in an otherwise pleasureable rust free experience
Checked it out and it was soft compared to the other side so they do need replacing. The rear axle is covered in rust got a number of seized screws and rounded brake pipe nuts so decided to drop it out and clean up the whole rear axle assembly. The car is a keeper so it will be worth the effort. Look at the mess here:

Yes very very heavy and ultra soft. They buckle by just looking at them
Not to mention they ruin the ride unless you have ultra smooth road where you live

Can i advise that you don't come to a show and look at our sports wheels,
all those owners with wheels that melted just because you looked at them.

?

Did you get any clunking or noises from the area? Any handling issues? Will be interesting to see how the car feels afterwards.

Are you going with standard bushes?

@cheechy
Depending how many horses you had before the wheel change, any idea where, maybe, 20% power increase came from? Even I'd (perhaps) give up my 17s for that.
18s on the TT could be good for an extra 30 or 40 bhp.
Mac.

Ok so I said it "felt like this" on initial acceleration feel - I know for a fact that it isn't actually 20bhp faster but I'm not sure if you are taking the michael or not :) . For sure though the initial pickup and feel is better with the pepperpots as I've swapped between the 17s and 15" pepperpots a few times now. Always take bad going to the 17s as the car feels like its wading in treacle...

Definitely taking the Michael @cheechy
Don't know about treacle though, my 17s are like Red Bull, "gives you wings" (allegedly).

Today I had a custom Quantum Tuning Hybrid Power/Eco remap by ZenSPORT in Braintree, Essex. Resulted in 103bhp and 245Nm torque...what a difference it has made!!!!
Curious, willl people driving behind generally "know" if one has a remap? I am thinking on any presence of blacksmoke at acceleration?

Through past experience black smoke emitted after a remap does not bode well. Ive watched Vinces team at stealth racing map a Tdi 90 and there shouldn't be any once the process is complete.

There's always an element of 'clearing the pipes' when you only boot it occasionally, remap or no remap. If you use the power regularly, it shouldn't smoke but if you've had it remapped it will be obvious by the way it goes!
