The Definitive Alloy Wheel Picture thread (Alloys)

They are bbs RX 228. 5x100 et 35 7.5J. They are old wheels that were quite popular on corrado vr6's. Haven't weighed them but am fitting same tyres as i have on my sport 17" wheels. Will weigh both wheels and post up.

The QT’s ideally need 215 40 17s and so I reckon they must be 7.5” because the 205 40 17s look slightly stretched.

Does this wheel ring any bells...???
If so, do you have photos to share of what they would look like on an A2 or TT?
Seller says they are from a 1999 TT with 195/65-15tires, 5x100, inpress 31mm and hub diameter 57mm (likely a 6.5" width).
They might just do the trick for my winter tires instead of my pepper pots.

Hi ,
they look like Audi 80/90 wheels to me

Always best to be ready for Snow !

They are not on the A2 now. Original Shiny SE 6 Spoke Alloy Wheels are on at the moment, admittedly with 185 50 16 Toyo Snowprox Tyres ready for the Winter. The A2 is not going anywhere for now. No Power Steering until Timmus has time to fix it.

I love this thread!

@66Beetle - can you comment on how heavy the steel wheels are, for example compared to the 16" SE alloys, or 15" pepper pots?

I don’t know why they ever use the term “ Light Alloy Wheels “. I have never found any Alloy Wheel that was anywhere near “ Light “. I would say the Steel Wheels are a lot lighter than the Alloy Wheels. I wasn’t expecting the conversation to go this way when I posted photos of our A2 with its Steel Winter Wheels, nor was I expecting to be headed down to our garage with the Bathroom Weighing Scales, where rather conveniently there is one SE 6 Spoke 16” Alloy with a New Pirelli Snow Control Tyre and the Set of 4 Genuin3 Audi 15” Steel Winter Wheels with Part Worn Vredestein Snowtrac 3 in 165 65 15

I’ll let you know the outcome, or would people like to start making Bets ?

Steve U

Have you placed your Bets yet ?

The results are in, and the Bathroom Scales are back in the Bathroom. It’s going to be a shock result for anyone who believes in so called “ Light Alloy Wheels “ !

Well I know that a Pepperpot is about 5.7 kg without a tyre - I believe the SE six spoke is about 3x this weight?(!) - So I would say the steel wheel is going to be nominally the same as the pepperpot.

There - that leaves it sufficiently vague for me to remain proven right over a fairly wide range of outcome!

I weighed an se with a tyre at 18kg yesterday

I weighed a standard A2 15" alloy with 175/60 15 Dunlop StreetResponse 2 on it the other day = 12.5 kg

Ok, now you guys got me going too...
A very dirty, sandy and gravel filled treaded Pepper Pot without the plastic center cup just weighed in at 13.2kg outside my shed...
I estimate a clean weight of under 13kg and this is with a 185/60-15 Nokian HakkapeliitaR3 tire which I expect is heavier than the 15" tires on the alloy and steel rims from gills and 66Beetle.

I swapped out TT-style 17" wheels for these. They were about 2kg [Edit - actually 5kg!] lighter per corner!
But I now really want the fat five spoke "competition"? wheels (17 7.5J ET32, perfect!) refurbished in black. Seeing some on a TT on Sunday and a Golf yesterday is not helping me resist spending more on this "cheap runaround".
