Pro Boost FSI remap

Can I register interest in the last one please.

Sorry Roger, that was the last one I’m afraid. If @Chand doesn’t proceed then it will be available to you.

I won’t be sending another batch off until January, and then the price will very much depend on what happens with this trade deal. Let’s hope they can work one out.

Ok sorry I read i wrong had a late night last night, I thought you ment that was the last one now chand has ordered his.
Yes if he doesn't want it then I will buy it, am not in a rush for it. As I have more then 1 fsi that could benefit from the ProBoost.

Thankyou

I’m sorry to announce that having looked into the process of sending ECU’s to and from Germany for the mapping process, there are new levels of complexity and a risk of occurring unexpected transport charges. I have therefore suspended this service until further notice.

If the process becomes more simplified in future, then I’ll start things up again.

I’ll try to keep things as non political as possible, but by damn has Brexit ruined trade for sole traders/small business dealing with the EU.

The higher running temperature is just for a tiny efficiency increase when at part-throttle.
Increasing the running temperature of an engine increases it's the thermal efficiency of that engine, ie you get more energy out of the same fuel charge, than at a lower (normal) running temperature , regardless of throttle position.
FSI refers to the way that fuel and air is mixed and behaves in the combustion chamber, allowing a weaker mixture at engine speeds below about 2800 rpm (ie: Most of the time).
The result is an efficient, low emissions engine, without the need for a turbo. Oh, and in an A2, a great drive!
Mac.

That is a shame, my fsi has been running like a dream since this was fitted, it was good before but it's better now and no eml on ?

I understand the problem of buying from Europe at the moment, I ordered a camera 3rd Jan and still not arrived so asked for refund which is proving difficult, they expect me to wait until early March ?, thankfully I paid by credit card so I should be receiving a refund that way. Sorry to ramble on just wanted to warn people about ordering from abroad at the moment.

@A2Steve Is there a way that ProBoost could license the map technology to someone in the A 2OC? I can't imagine that whatever ProBoost do in Germany could not be done over here just as well.
Is it worth asking them to consider such an arrangement?
Mac.

But the ECU's here are happier because they are British ?

It’s not over until the fat lady sings as they say. I’m hoping that it’s just early teething problems and the import/export of goods will get smoother in a couple of months.

The idea of someone in the U.K. doing the Pro Boost mapping process in-house sounds a good one if things can’t be resolved otherwise. I suppose the issue of trust may be a stumbling block but then perhaps @timmus may be a good Avenue for doing this if it comes to it, as I can’t think of someone more trustworthy.

Yes, I had similar thoughts.
I’d be delighted to get involved, but I’d need to gain the trust of the ProBoost guys if they’re going to let me distribute their product. Perhaps speaking German will assist. :)

Cheers,

Tom

I was wondering if they could send ecu specific files, so that each ecu modified would be controlled and charged for. That would protect their intellectual property.
Mac.

I’ve just notification from a member that they will be returning their unit unused due to giving up on an FSI project. So that does mean that there will be one unit available in the U.K. again. Happy for this to be reserved in advance.

"I’m hoping that it’s just early teething problems and the import/export of goods will get smoother in a couple of months."

Unfortunately, Steve, these teething problems will become permanent reality. As of now, only the EU had applied all these new checks and controls from their side.
The UK, having established full control over our borders - which was one of the goals of Brexit - have NOT introduced this control from the 1st of January 2021 and they will come into place from July 2021...

" As part of the Brexit arrangements, the government decided to offer a six-month grace period, meaning the full range of physical checks would not be needed on imports until July" - from

I bought a Contitech cambelt kit with pump from Buycarparts (Germany) on the 11th of January and it has arrived on the 3rd of February. Before, irrespective of the size of my purchases from them, the parcels had been delivered within 5 days at the very most.

I am planning a trip to Germany in the spring to visit Nothelle with my S2. Perhaps I could collect a few ECU's if it's not too far out of my way? If lockdown allows, it will be April/May time.

"If you’re travelling to Great Britain (England, Wales or Scotland) from outside the UK, your personal allowances mean you can bring in a certain amount of goods without paying tax or duty.
When you’re bringing in goods you must:
  • transport them yourself
  • use them yourself or give them away as a gift
If you go over your allowances you must declare all your goods and pay tax and duty on all the goods of the same type in that category.
You cannot combine allowances with other people to bring in more than your individual allowance.

Allowance for other goods
You can bring in other goods worth up to £390 (or up to £270 if you arrive by private plane or boat).

If you go over your allowance you pay tax and duty on the total value of the goods, not just the value above the allowance.

You may have to pay customs duty if you exceed your allowances.

You may also have to pay import VAT.

Import VAT
You may have to pay import VAT on the total value of the goods plus duty. You pay VAT at the current UK VAT rate."

Please note the meaning of this very sentence:
"If you go over your allowance you pay tax and duty on the total value of the goods, not just the value above the allowance."

Surely our issue is a bit complex here; second hand parts are being sent, then worked on, then sent back with no (apparent) inherent increase in value. In theory, i can't quite imagine that this would be subject to vat or import duty. I can imagine that it will be horrendously complex to sort out though...!

Yes, and therein lies the problem. I’m sending my possession to someone in Germany as a gift, but they then update the software, thereby increasing its value to 300euros. ?‍♂️

I’m sure that it’s possible, but my concern is that the value of a batch of 5 ECU’s coming back into the country is 1500euros. Once sold I get about £150 as my commission on selling them. If I get charged VAT and handling charge on these then that could be around £350. I’m not sure if I’m willing to take that risk at the moment, I need to be better informed. I’ll do some more research into it and see where it takes us.

Agreed, it really is a very difficult conundrum and the harsh reality is that no one (including the powers that be) know how to handle this sort of thing. Individuals and small businesses are now burdened with the hassle of sorting this out.

Add to this the business and (ultimately) the tax burden of covid.... last one out, turn out the lights....

Where are Proboost based in Germany? Maybe we can have a trickle of ECUs going back and forth when members are going that way - better than nothing.
