What tyre sizes for OEM 16" SE alloys

Evening all

Currently running on the OEM 16" SE alloys with tyres measuring 185/50/16. Not sure if this was the OEM tyre size fitted?

I've got another set of the same wheels so I'm intending to have a summer and winter setup.

On my other car (B5 S4) I'm running PS4s for the summer and CrossClimate PLUS on my winter wheels.

I really like the CC's as they handle really well but the smallest size they do appears to be 195/55/16.

A few related questions:

1.What were the OEM tyre sizes?
2. Is the 195/55 a little too big in peoples opinion? 60mph on the clock would be 63mph in reality.
3. What other tyre sizes are folks running on these wheels?

Thanks

Hi,

You do not seem to have noticed the definitive wheel thread. Pour a beverage of your choice, sit down for an hour and read, at least the answer to your OEM questions are in the first post.

185/50r16 is the OEM size. I used 195/55r16 for the first five years of A2 ownership before changing to OEM size Maxxis AP2, an all season tyre that proved to be an excellent all rounder, whether on dry, wet or snow covered roads. I found it virtually impossible to use 4th gear at 30 mph with the 195s, whereas the 185s are perfect for the A2's gearing.

Thanks Andy, this is exactly what I’ll do...as well as brush up on my search skills.

That’s a very good point you make about the gearing. More research required as per Andrews reply above.
