Return of the BREMEN SQR 46 - Would it look good in an A2?

Good morning, Blaupunkt has recently launched a new version of its iconic Bremen SQR 46. I personally think it looks great, and might even look great in an A2. Especially the possibility to match the interior light colour is quite appealing, combined with the functionality. Reviews of the unit are generally good, though it is priced rather steeply at £399.99. You will need a conversion kit as well, I suspect, as it doesn't appear to have the same length as the Concert II headunit.

Just curious what your thoughts are :) It has already been discussed on the Dutch A2 forum where some find it too retro looking for the A2

Assume it's similar to most non-OEM head units in that wiring would be a nightmare, and if Blaupunkt don't do a dedicated A2 fascia for it, just won't look right.

Just my HO.

I like, but it's based on a mid-late eighties style, hence it being shown in a C1990 911 964.

I'd say a bit retro for an A2, especially as the A2 was very futuristic and still looks current today.

Delighted these things are being launched though :)

Just had a quick look on Amazon - it looks as though you may be able to use the OEM connectors, but ... £425! :0

They seem to be catering to people with a classic car who don't mind spending that kind of money to 'improve' their car. It's a shame, really, but I can understand it from Blaupunkt's point of view.

Late eighties / early 90's cars are going completely nuts at the moment. To me it doesn't seem long ago they were new and I was a spotty yoof dreaming about them. Now ex-yoofs are looking at essentially interest free money and recapturing their early years. Demand goes up, prices go up which justifies the man-maths leading to price rises etc etc. A friend's about to market his nice MK1 GTi: I thought about £8k. Nope, £17.5k

In that context a few hundred for the stereo doesn't even register. It does seems nutty for sure: that's more than I paid for the last TDi

Funnily enough, I was just thinking of it's context for use in my Mk2 scirocco storm. For an A2, not really an option. But the 'rocco has gone up in price 10 fold in the last 10 years so I'm not complaining.

Most definitely a more suitable match for an 80's vehicle as it is based on the Toronto/Bremen SQR 46/48 of the mid 80's. I fitted one into my Ur quattro last year and it looks more at home there than it would in the A2. I think that as the fascia protrudes by about 10mm it would upset the flat front style of the A2 dash. It is however loaded with modern tech and facilities which make it easy and convenient to live with.
Another advantage is the price (although quite high ), it is significantly less than a fully refurbished original unit.
