OK so the CCCU is single-letter so in theory it is compatible with your keys. Next question, is that the original CCCU? Some versions do not support remote locking, the base-spec cars in Europe and Eire didn't have it so this CCCU might be a replacement that has originated from one of those. @timmus are you able to advise here?

So the CCCU's part number is 8ZO 837 231P - There are old threads from other members long ago quoting that exact part number when their cars were just a few years old, so I would say it's quite likely to be the correct / original one for the car.

I saw in another thread on this issue that you could go to Timpsons and get them to check your keys were actually sending a signal, but the fact that neither of them work even with new batteries (you tried that right?) suggests a problem elsewhere. I think a scan is the next step.

You are correct David, I have tried both keys (before and after both batteries replaced) and they don't work with any method offered.

I've got a Q unit here with 2 fobs that would hopefully sort you out.
If the reprogramming doesn't work when I get the kit then I will defo take them off your hands, please pm me a price Steve so I know what I need spare and thanks again.

Mark, does your car have all four electric windows? If so, then Steve's Q unit would need you to code them in with VCDS. I'm now suspecting that's why you have the P unit.

Note that all single-letter CCCU's contain a compromised Motorola chip which is why there are now frequent failures on that generation of CCCU. Failure is not unknown on the later two-letter ones either but nowhere near as often. I guess, let's see what David's VCDS says about it but the remotes not working could be a sign of this one starting to go.

Yes I have all electric windows, funny old thing is the windows all work individually but the drivers side only works for the drivers side, another job I was going to look into at some point.

That's also controlled by the CCCU. It's starting to look like it's on the way out.

Thanks all saves me some time. Yes single letter CCCU non D key = perfect.
A quicker route could be to use @A2Steve 2 fobs and replacement CCCU, just plug and go. No chance of accidentally reprogramming something else on the car with VCDS.

Graham, surely the car won't lock at all if the Q CCCU is installed without recoding it for four electric windows. @timmus can you comment please?

If I haven't said it already then thank you to all those that have been helping with this issue it's very much appreciated.

CCCUs aren’t plug and play. Unless you get lucky and unknowingly buy one that coincidentally happens to be correctly coded for your car, some software work will always be needed.

My by-post CCCU service can be seen here...

@Mka306, I’ve received your private message and will reply within the next day or so. :)

Cheers,

Tom

Sorry for the confusion here re plug and go. I assumed the CCCU was being breathed on by @timmus and would reach Mark already set up.

Tom to the rescue as always - A2 levels of reliability :)

@Mka306 Mark, even if you go this route via Tom (and I strongly suggest you consider it), Have a go with scanning the car with my VCDS and see what (other) fault codes come up anyway, even just for your peace of mind.

If it were me I would do a scan and post the results in your project thread as a right of passage / first milestone. You should have it by Friday latest, so a nice weekend job.
