Today I.....

Didn’t know one of those could be made too fit. Keep pushing those boundary’s @2work !!!
Evening Erling,

The rear of all RNS-Es, regardless of what vehicle they are intended for, are the same. It’s the TT curved fascia that doesn’t allow for prefect fitting into the A2.

I knew that I would have to swap the front fascia for an A3/4/6 fascia but that doesn’t concern me. It’s an easy enough operation that can be completed in an hour.

Personally I was never bothered about adapting a TT unit but £150 for a first generation RNS-E PU (internal hardware for V signal and RFSL identical to the 193B that everyone seems to prefer) was an absolute steal. I’ve never seen one so inexpensive before and had to grab it for the tight budget transformation I'm trying to keep to with Project 250.

I know I’ll find a cheap enough fascia soon enough whilst on my travels. There are a few on eBay which I might enquire about.

What would be a real project though is getting a R8 RNS-E with the larger screen and separate looking buttons:

I might have a go at this one day and relocate the buttons (only on a ribbon so might be able to lengthen it) to below the ashtray or even the handbrake tray. Just waiting to understand if the custom firmware will work on this unit, cannot see why not but I’m not an expert but I know a man who is. If done correctly it would look very MMI style. No doubt a custom 3D printed fascia will be required but should be simple enough.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening all,

Today I am thrilled we have such a great community…

After my recent request for assistance on the ‘Are There Any Members In Scotland’ thread, @Neilf responded to my question of anyone near Motherwell.

This was to collect a Gumtree item in Motherwell that the seller wouldn’t post.

After a few PMs Neil, without taking any funds from me (although offered), drove to the Gumtree seller, paid for my item out of his own pocket and then sent it by DPD next day again out of his own pocket. I of course have reimbursed him accordingly.

This afternoon I received my bargain purchase:

The marks on the screen were just wipe marks and have totally disappeared.

This 2009 8J0035193 unit (no revision letter so is exactly the same as a 193B) functions perfectly and has already been updated to the latest Beta Firmware:

Very very happy with my purchase that would not have been obtainable without our amazing community spirited members.

I’ll swap the fascia in time before fitting into 250, another story for another day. For now I just want to thank @Neilf for helping me out, what a community we have. Neil you’re a legend Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Fantastic Neil, great for helping out the community

That really is a bargain , the Lamborghini Gallardo rns-e unit fits perfectly without any fettling
although I’m still to change the software over.
Cheers

Evening Keith,

Yes bargain indeed. Ive already removed the fascia and sent it to Bart at VAG Retrofits for a swap for a flat version from an A3 that I can trim. Had to go deeper than I have before to remove the power/volume button but simple enough with this guide.

This is looking to turn out like the cheapest RNS-E PU that I’ve ever seen. Perfect budget item for 250.

You need to upgrade the firmware soonest as the latest custom iteration really is quite good. Have you changed the soft coding yet with VCDS.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening Tom,
No I haven’t as I don’t have access to a pc with cd drive any more (only DVD) so am unable to downgrade to reconfigure with VCDS for A6
Otherwise I would be able to, although it didn’t give exactly the same engineering options as the Audi ones have.

Kind regards
Keith.

Keith,

I’m more than happy to send you a copy of the latest custom firmware for you to upgrade your RNS-E.

Once you have installed it you will be able to change the settings to be perfectly set up in your A2. I’m here to assist along the way if you have VCDS.

PM incoming to get your address to send you a firmware CD.

Kind regards,

Tom

After changing my ASV (thanks to member AndyP) my blower developed a horrendous rattling noise. Some weeks have passed and I thought i would investigate, out comes glove box and a few bolts later i retrieved two sheets of kitchen roll which i had used to clean egr/asv with. So to put a long story short dont leave anything infront of air duct ?

Boy was i happy with this result.

Happy A2ing people
