Audi RNS-E 192E

Morning all, Can anyone tell me if an
RNS-E 192E can be made to fit in and work in an A2?
Morning,

Can you confirm that its a 192E unit you're asking about. This is the 8E0035192E:

Heres an image of it in action:

As you can see its display is red pixels just like the DIS display which is very susceptible to pixel failure. I'm quite confident that you'll make it fit using the exact same process that you trim down the larger screened Audi Navigation Plus RNS-E's but not sure how much utility it will be for navigation as the screen is not colour and is also a lot smaller than what most members have fitted. I don't know for sure if the latest Map DVD's work in these units as never played with one.

Even though you may find one of these quite cheap, I do feel that you'll be upgrading to an RNS-E/RNS-E PU in a short time. Why not save the hassle later on and wait for a decent priced larger screened unit. The functionality of the PU units is really quite good with the custom firmware that is now available.

As I've not had my hands on one of these units before I couldn't say for certain that they'll code correctly for use in an A2. Saying that it could also be just as easy as a Audu Navigation Plus unit.

If you're upgrading from a failing/failed Symphony unit and are picking one of these up for pennies then it might be worth a go but I do think you'll want its big brother retrofitted soon after, just my personal view and fully understand that were all individual.

Hope this helps to answer your question.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom, thanks for the response and sorry for the confusion I've caused with my post.
The model I have bought in a moment of eBay madness last night is actually 8E0 035 192T.
From what I have read it seems its from an A3.

My car doesn't have a full DIS just the half as it's a standard SE.

Morning,

For info the 8E0 units came from an A4, they should have a chrome strip along the bottom and have squared corners at th stop. The 8P0 units are from an A3 and have rounded corners at the top. 4B0 units came from an A6 which also has squared corner but cannot remember if they have a chrome strip along the bottom. Either way, all these differenced are removed for shaping into the A2's aperture.

Yes the Audi A4 8E0035192T can be shaped to fit into the A2. Being an RNS-E (Mk1) and not and RNS-E PU (Mk2) it will not have the higher pixel count LED screen and not able to run Navigation from a SD Card but still totally usable. I was running one of these units for many years in my previous commuter and fitted it into the OEM A2 for a short time.

The trimming process is simple enough. To connect it up to your A2 you'll need a Quadlock Harness Adapter, Aerial Adapter and GPS Antennae (have a chat with Bart at VAG Retrofits and mention that you're an A2OC member to receive discount) to get it working and it'll require a soft coding tweak to correctly function but nothing that you cannot do yourself if you have access to VCDS. Let me know if you require any assistance installing it as there is quite a lot of helpful pages on here that `i can try to locate for you.

If you're choosing Tom @timmus to install this then he should be able to supply all necessary parts for you.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks Tom, being Scottish I leapt in to a purchase swayed by the £80 asking price then panicked about the fitting.
It does have the chrome strip along the bottom and square corners at the top.
Best get the dremel charged...

The dream is to have Tom fit it but I do love the challenges of some DIY especially when it comes to car stereo fitting.

The double din cage is waiting but I've not been brave enough to make the start.

Thanks for the clarification.

Wow a double DIN conversion also,

Fitting the RNS-E is straight forward but feel Tom might be who you’re after for such extensive works. You Know Tom is great at these things and it would take any stress out of the work.

Quite interested in seeing/understanding the process of converting a single DIN Dashboard with the cage as kind of contemplating this in the OEM A2.

I have a great Soul double DIN Dashboard here but that’s going into 250. The Soul single DIN Dashboard from 250 might make its way into OEM (currently has Jive double DIN Dashboard fitted) for the contrasting look I’m interested in.

Good luck with what ever option you choose. It’s certainly an upgrade I couldn’t be without anymore.

Kind regards,

Tom
