Today I passed my, or rather Albert passed his, MOT.
The thing I like about working on these old cars is, they don’t rust and they are relatively straight forward (no canbus to battle with).

Today I've experienced a rather scary issue.
I know and happened to me as well before, when the brake guard picks up a stone chip and for a bit that grinds against the brake disc. This issue was nothing like that, 10x louder and now warning lights too.

I was driving today, when suddenly the ASR, traction control, light came on and seconds later, 3 very loud metal banging noise, like chainsaw hit the front left brake area, and then loud "puff", like something fell off. All start-up lights came on, along with the beeping red (!) on the mid display. I've been dealing with MAP sensor issues, so this didn't help at all.
I was close to home, so drove back like that. After re-starting the car, the ASR and (!) disappeared. Breaks worked normal.

An hour later I was driving again and 5min in the ASR began flashing and all lights with (!) came on again, with some noise from brakes again, just less loud. I was prepared and applied brake, but to my shock, it was heavy and shaking like never before. The car began shaking violently too, until it came to a stop. Stopped for a bit, then drove back, brakes worked good again.
At home I drove up on the ramp to look around, but nothing out of ordinary. No loose bits, nothing seems fallen off, just the broken/disconnected brake pad thickness (if I recall it correctly) sensor, which been like that before I bought the car 2+ years ago, just like the split/greasy hub.
Brake pad and disc seem fine, no leaks, brake fluid is dirty but same level as before.
Anyone ever came across this issue?

I think that would really concern anybody.

Suggest you copy the post and make it the opening post in a new thread, replies will only get fragmented and the fault discussion buried and lost for future searching fellow sufferers in the 'Today I ....' thread; potentially too good to waste.

Gruesome metallic noise yet you say nothing is out of order on inspection, which suggests to me something internal in that area, I am no mechanic but wheel bearing, slipping splines if that is possible?

Today I've bought another A2 to run along side my tdi . 2003 1.6fsi se red in colour. 51k miles , full history , black leather interior, rear electric windows , double din symphony. Collecting it on Friday . Good overall condition with no lacquer peel . Rear bumper has been dented in the corner but looks like it should pull out . I'll give it a full detail and ceramic coating before it gets put into use as my wife's daily . Wheels need a refurb. A friend viewed and collected it today for me and his raving how nice it is to drive and feels like new .Reckon I got a bargain at £900! I bought my first A2 in February and have already become hooked . We now have 4 cars for two of us to use ! ( Ford smax as the family car , tdi75 a2 my commuter , 1.6fsi a2wife commuter , b7 RS4 Avant as my toy .)

Having looked at the photos it does indeed seem that you’ve had a real bargain there.

Congrats, a fine car as us fsi owners can attest. I've not seen the pics so am seriously intrigued at this low mileage beauty, do you have any pics?

Edit; just seen the fb pics, looks a real peach. :)

Hi all, does anyone know if the MANIFOLD PRESSURE SENSOR (MAP G71) on 1.4 petrol needs adaptation when cleaned/replaced? I have done EGR and TBA adaptations, but not sure about this one. Thanks

99% sure you don’t need to adapt the MAP sensor. Assuming that is the one attached to the end of the intake manifold with two screws

Hi Paul, yes that one. I've cleaned the MAP G71 and the T-shape heater pipe, changed the oil separator box and sealed even the small cracks on the vent hoses, to sort out the multiple warning light issues. Asr and Abs lights gone away, but looks like wasn't enough to save the sensor too, as as of today it's stalled on me 3 times. Never happened before, so that was the last missing symptom of faulty sensor, so I finally gave up trying to save money on it, and ordered a new Bosch one. I hope it's gonna get here soon and fixes the EML and EPC lights. I was trying to save money for over a month and only using vagcom to sort things out, instead of buying the parts and now I'm in this pickle... Few before- after pics. Cheers.
