Just reporting back. Had the MYP gearbox fitted at WOM this week. As others have mentioned, the throw is shorter, and it’s a bit notchy, but the ratios seem to suit the TDi90 well and I’m very pleased with it. Hard to tell yet as my trip home was in awful traffic on the M6, so not many opportunities to stretch its legs, but it seems very relaxed at speed. 70 in top is about the same revs as 60 was previously with the old box (which already had longer legs than the 75 box).
And delighted to have found WOM. Rob and Marcus couldn’t have been more helpful, as well as the ‘box, they serviced and MOT’d the car, replacing the (shot) pressed steel wishbones with the cast units, and also replacing the front scuttle after the merest of mentions from me. Marcus also fixed an irritating rattle in the driver’s door, without being asked. I’d lived with it for years as I’d assumed these sort of things were a pain to track down (=££) so hadn’t even mentioned it. SO nice to drive a rattle-free car again!
