50mpg from 1.4TDI90 on long trip - normal?

Higher tyre pressure wise, I think running higer setting with full board will be best to stick to if that is the case.
More modern PHEV or EV has higher pressure than normal petol or diesel cars.
When I had diesel engine cars, I did see 2~3mpg difference with Shell, Esso or BP fuel compares to Sainsbury's finest!

Current PHEV & EVS run higher pressures because they are very heavy. The tyre pressure is specied to maintain the correct tyre profile when supporting the designed weight. Heavier car, higher pressure.

My wife's Polo had higher pressure and it was same 1.4 TDi Bluemotion so it is not necessary, correct.
But OutlanderPHEV is 2tonne! So it is heavy, my mate's lift says so with noise it makes...

Just a guess, but is the. Polo on narrower rims and tyres? If so, the higher pressure is logical.

Today’s update - over 150 miles travelled and still not got to 3/4 mark. Sitting at 60-65mph on motorway, probably 70/30 split with b roads and not too difficult to hit 62mpg. This is with a broken fuel temperature sensor wire too, I really did forget how much I love these cars. Of course it’s nothing compared to what the 1.2tdi can do. I wonder if BHC engines are better at mpg than my AMF ?

Isn’t the polo 200kg more than an a2?

On Wednesday I filled my Tdi 90 6 speed with Shell V power. I drove down the M5 in the torrential rain to Burnham on sea and then back up the M5 to Gloucestershire, about 60 miles at 65 MPH on the motorway and 12.5 miles on A/B roads. I'm happy with this MPG

Wow, 68mpg from a 90 ? I was thinking of a longer 5th to improve things but maybe the 6 speed box is the way to go - albeit expensive.

What’s the calculated consumption Terry? My 90 days it has used 10-15% more on the DIS than it actually has - if yours does too then your true consumption could be even lower!

Nice stretch of m5 for tailwind return journey and its slightly down to Burnham. I do stretch-run every day in my 90 atl and get 58mpg on the dash even though I often hit 85. I think stick to comparing dash or it get bit tricky doesn't it? I agree my actual wallet to pump litre conversion equated to 55.5

The DIS on my ATL always reads 52mpg. I don’t really make any extraordinary effort to drive efficiently
On motorways / national speed limit roads I will typically drive at 75+mph. I like to accelerate briskly. I do switch off a 90°C engine when stopped, including at traffic lights

Is that the average consumption figure since last reset? Have you worked out your actual consumption from the pump figures?

Yesterday went to Eastbourne and back to visit @RAB. Had 4.8l/km combined on the DIS (with the 10% overestimation I would have been looking at 4.3 - 4.4l/100km (64-65 mpg) which again made me very happy :)
That's very good! What cruising speed was that at? If at 65-70mph then you have a very healthy ATL indeed.

Today refilled on same pump at the same Shell fuel station, after the motorway trip last Wednesday 68.2mpg ,the car had two 12 mile commutes Thursday/Friday all on B roads,so 4 cold starts and a 5th cold start today, back down the M5. The air Temperature last Wednesday was about 9c today around 13c
It took 8.25 litres ( 1.8147 UK Gallons) of V Power diesel to fill to first click, total trip was 110.3 miles so average was 60.78 mpg DIS was showing 60 mpg. DIS slightly underreads

@dj_efk it is the average since @timmus fitted it. In my early days of ownership (2009) I was scrupulous about calculating MPG based on tachometer readings and fuel receipts … that didn’t last long ?

PS recently, because of fuel prices, I am running the cheapest diesel I can find, without any dosing with additives

Edit: PPS I should start doing what @timmus and others do: dosing cheap diesel with either two-stroke oil, or Wynn’s additive

Mostly 50-60, with some stretches at 40. The problem is those roads are: roundabout - dual carriageway for 1 mile - another roundabout - dual carriageway for 800 yards - another roundabout etc. Those types of roads make it really difficult to do any better...

My last trip to Manchester I had 4.1l/100km at 60-65 mph.

Half way point. On my previous A2’s with the smaller fuel tank I would nearly be empty by now!
