Today I.....

Today I have cleaned the throttle body and flange below it. Hole towards EGR was 3/4 blocked. Probably the line to the EGR and EGR itself is not in any better condition.
Throttle response is much more linear, though not yet perfect.

If I remember correctly I have cleaned throttle body 10 years/11.000 km ago, so I was quite surprised to find so much this black stuff on. Flange I did not clean that time.

Today I've started looking into the cambelt set change. The kits come with water pump, but to my surprise, they don't come with the Fan belt/V-belt/Auxiliary belt. Gates ones definitely don't.

Do I need only the Fan belt, or the pulley change is a must as well?
Fan belt with pulley: https://m.autodoc.co.uk/gates/7537408
Cambelt with water pump:

In the Autodoc App the Gates cambelt kit is £107 now from £130+, so good price. Cheers

If the tensioner is good, just replace the V belt, GSF gates one, 12.00 quid, bought one last Friday.
If the belt is good and quite newish, put it back on.
Your call mate.

Yuk, I’m thinking I should have a look at mine now, don’t imagine it’s been done in 21 years

This morning I lowered the electrical passenger door windows to adjust the mirror. Then it stopped. Halfway up, halfway down. Neither door's switched will operate it. Luckily it's 20+ degrees here. But any ideas? Fuses? Anyway to manually raise it? Thanks

Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes then reconnect it. Tonka did the same to me two years ago. Followed this advice and it’s never happened since.

Slight variation on this
Disconnect the battery leads and touch the two leads (not the battery terminals) together for 10 seconds

This will clear any residual charge in the A2’s electrics
Then reconnect the battery

The lower and upper window points will need to be re taught to the A2 by moving the windows to the lowest position and holding the switch in the down position for 10seconds. Repeat for the upper closed position

The auto close and open feature will then work as intended

Tbf Paul, I think that’s exactly what I was advised to do and did. Probably by you! 🙏🏻 😊

From the cleaning I have done around 150km and the throttle is noticeable more responsive and the minimum rpm are now almost rock solid.
Since the cleaning is really cheap (two gaskets for around 6 EUR and a throttle body cleaner for 3 EUR), I would highly recommend to do this. The job is also quite easy.
I have filmed the whole process step by step, but I need to find time to edit the video... It will be another long one...

That worked perfectly and the windows still retained the auto close settings which very much surprised me. But I'm so glad it worked so easily as it has just begun to rain last night when I tried your solution. Thanks Paul. (I think I still have some door straps to return to you once I install your refurbished ones)

No great rush. Ensure name and address in the box when you return them

Cheers. Paul

Now that the price has eased off slightly I brimmed the tank today with the millers plus Tesco diesel and calculated a tank average of 61mpg, with approx 600 miles for a tankful.

Not bad for a TDi90 with a binding handbrake (now fixed - will be interested to see what improvement I now get.) - Hoping to get near 700!
