Today I.....

I think I've lost several days after entering the rabbit hole that is tyre choice ! Initially I was set on the Cross climates, then I struggled to find any non Xl load tyres for the 15" wheel size and ended up with the Goodyear's 175/65 R15 84T . If it all works out the Speedo should just be within tolerance....

CrossClimate 2 185/60 R15 84H would have been a suitable option, listed here at Asda but other suppliers have them

Yes, there were a few options to consider but for better or worse I settled on the 175 width for steering feel.
In the end I shortlisted the Michelin Xclimates , Bridgestone A005s and the Goodyear Vector 4s and even the Vredstein .

I'll let you know how they work out ...

Today I...washed my car, reinsret restored rain gutter strips and protect headlights with ceramic coating.

Today I was about to fix the broken airbox, after driving through an unwanted puddle 2 weeks ago, but instead I had to put the battery on charge, as the engine didn't even crack and only showed 10.1v. After the 2-3 weeks non-stop rain, it's caused the battery to drain after just a few days, but today was the worse.
Surprisingly the charger showed 14v just in 2 hours. I'm gonna scan the ecu, the underneath tray is dry fortunately, the rain/high puddle might've caused damage further damage.

Not so much Today I, more over the last few weekends …

Fitted a set of genuine heated mirrors all ready for colder nights
Finally manage to get my starter motor sorted ( the usual squeal ). This was an absolute pig of a job on the AUA. Have taken lots of pictures so will edit together a ‘how to‘ shortly

Just out of curiosity, what’s the +/- with genuine heated mirrors, apart from being factory they are approx 20 years okso not sure how good the hear elements will be??

Sorry what I was trying to establish is, is it worth the money to pay whatever amount over fleabay copy ones?

Hi

If I have understood correctly, the plus side of originals is build quality and fit. I noticed a number of grumbles on the this forum about the fit and longevity of some of the after market mirrors. The down side is the cost and availability. I was lucky to pick up some some at a reasonable price in the market still in good shape. They are no longer available from dealers now thou I think Audi Tradition still have them. To be fair I don’t have any personal experience of any after market ones myself and as you rightly point out 2nd hand once may not have many years left in them!

Rgds

today i got around to getting the rear interior dome light working. i assumed the bulbs had gone but they were fine.
took the housing out and the lights came on.

seems the wires and pins have to be held in a taut position not unlike a usb charging cable that needs to be bent at 90* in order to work!

Yes may have been a coincidence that moving the light housing / connector flexed the cracked solder enough to make it work again.

Enjoyed my other half discovering the windscreen wiper earth issue - in my car - .. (my first ever experience of this, this car now sitting on the drive in torrential rain). I've checked with jump leads and the wipers work fine but not without the extra connection.

So now she's got her car I've been nursing with the non-working oil pressure sensor issue instead (occurred during lambda replacement described elsewhere, but manifests as a loud bong, red oilcan symbol intermittently when driving). Also intermittent symptoms of brakelight switch that I was going to try to replace this weekend. This is going to be a fun day.
