Low compression on FSI one cylinder.

How low is the compression? Is it a blown head gasket? I’ve replaced a cracked piston in my FSI with it in situ. 20,000 miles on and it’s still going well. It is a hell of a lot of stripping down but just spannering really. You need a trolley jack to pull the engine forward a little. When...

Brake lights and tail lights together

Half the LEDs? That is weird. Does the car have a tow bar (or wiring for one) fitted? This sounds like a problem with wiring or one of the bulb holder assemblies, contacts bent out of shape maybe. That’s the only other thing that springs to mind. I’ll dig out my wiring diagrams. Sent from my...

Brake lights and tail lights together

Try taking both the bulbs out and see if the central LED brake light still comes on with the headlight switch. Look at the bulbs and the holders, the bayonet pegs have to align correctly and it may be possible to fit them so the 2 contacts on the bulb ends bridge the 2 contacts on the holder...

    Today I.....

Drove down and left my daughter’s FSI with Adam @Kleynie who worked his magic and replaced the OSS, all done in a highly professional and enthusiastic manner, and quicker than expected. It was such a pleasure to drive home in the afternoon sun with the OSS open, this after spending just long...

    Today I.....

(Thursday, Friday and yesterday)... I finally got around to fitting a new set of injectors to my FSI. The parts had been sitting in their boxes starring at me forlornly from the top of the chest of drawers in my bedroom since I bought them back in April, along with a set of new o-rings. I'd...

Fuel cap release button not working!

The plastic coating on mine broke up but the micro switch was also faulty. I cut the coating back so it was no longer fouling the plunger on a new micro switch, with mine this fixed it, so the absence of the coating thickness in the mechanical tolerances stack-up actuating the thing wasn’t a...

Sidelight only works with dipped or full beam on?

Do the parking lights work normally? i.e. ignition off, indicator left should put the side light on left, same on right. Also I assume that this affects both front and rear? Or just the front? Apart from that, it does sound a bit like the lighting switch might be at fault. Are you able to borrow...

Resurection - how to turn engine without starting

There may be a ECU fuse you can disconnect but I wouldn’t know which one for certain. I would be inclined to disconnect the injector harness at the large round connector on the flywheel end of the cylinder head. However, this will probably store a fault code so you may get the engine lamp lit...

P0653 Sensor ref voltage code - car intermittently in limp mode

Hi Matt, I was waiting for someone with specific knowledge to chime in on this but it's been quite a while with no reply so I'll give it a go. Did the driver door issue happen at the same time as the breakdown? So far as I can tell this fault code means the (normally 5V) reference voltage that...

    Audi A2 1.6 FSI

The 17912 is inlet manifold leak, sometimes this is due to a split in the EGR pipe that runs under the HP fuel pump on the end of the cylinder head above the gearbox. All the 166xx codes are misfires. The 17699 seems separate and to do with the G83 sensor at the radiator but search it up like...

    Windscreen Wipers Stopped Working!

Me too, my FSI wipers stopped working and it was easy to diagnose a faulty return. I even used the proper brown colour insulation for ground when installing a new link wire as others ha e done. However, the motor does also have a ground wired to it. From a few extra measurements, I think the...

    Handbrake issue 1.4tdi 90

Having to help the return spring by hand is not right. Is the cable preventing return somehow? You should be able to actuate the lever on the caliper with pliers or similar and see the piston “ratchet” it’s way out to take up any play between the disc, pads, caliper and piston. Sent from my...

    Radiator fan constantly running

Glad to hear you are back up and running. As I’ve suffered 2 failures myself, and also I’m an electronic engineer, I wondered 3 things: A) why the water gets in (if it does)? B) is repair possible? C) when the supply of used units will begin run out? Answering these in a random order...
