    Pro Boost FSI remap

Just a report on continued EML functionality post install: I've recently had the car spring an exhaust leak (the bolts holding the downpipe to the rear cat have essentially dissolved). In normal driving the car's more or less fine, but after using full throttle to join a dual carriageway the EML...

    Engine mounts

The answer will be to keep an eye out for the next Audi Tradition group purchase thread. I'm not sure how much the TDI differs from the FSI in this sense, but in my experience it'll be the gearbox mount that has likely failed - the timing side upper mount doesn't seem to suffer so much from...

    Pro Boost FSI remap

Both are available on Amazon so easy either way. The diesel one (31113) is more expensive than the petrol (31124 - £44 vs £29) but it's much more substantial. The diesel one is a direct fit - the length and depth are the same. I did find that it would only fit in one way up for some reason, even...

    Pro Boost FSI remap

Update on the mount: The bush hadn't failed in the mount. What had happened is that the bolt that holds the small end of the mount to the gearbox bracket had shaken totally loose - the mount was literally not connected to the engine. When I took off the undertray, the bolt just fell on the...

    Pro Boost FSI remap

Horsepower isn't the issue, it's high loads at low RPMs that put the most stress on the mount. The engine produces noticeably more jerk (that is, rate of change of acceleration) at lower RPMs with the map.

    Pro Boost FSI remap

I don't think an OEM mount would have broken. I think the issue is that the Febi mount is weaker than OEM. Looking at the list of approved vehicles for it, the highest power is 77 KW (vs 81 for the FSI) so it's already probably below spec. The reason this is a problem is because so many people...

    Pro Boost FSI remap

PSA / warning: The Febi Bilstein 31124 dogbone mount that I fitted at the end of August 2023 has just completely failed on my car. I was able to limp it home very carefully but still had a couple of horrible clanking moments. When I fitted the replacement I'd had the Pro Boost map for a fairly...

    Today I.....

Hit 160k in the FSI today as I pulled up to work. Also need to dust my instrument cluster...

What would be your dream engine swap?

Get the 2.5 TFSI from an RS3 / TTRS, along with the 4WD system, and create a mid-engined A2. That's what I'm doing if I win the lottery!

    Flashing EML - FSI

Did you have every injector replaced, or just one?

    Proboost ECU and emissions

I've just had my first MOT with the Pro Boost ECU fitted, and it sailed through emissions no problem at all. I haven't used any Cataclean (or other additive) in months, and didn't bother with an Italian tune-up beforehand either. This is in a car with 159000 miles. Values as follows: Fast Idle...

    Excessive play in the steering

You can adjust the steering rack - all you need is a centre punch and a socket set (I think it was 13mm but don't quote me on that). Tighten it a bit at a time until the play is gone, then centre punch the locking collar (you can see the mark in the attached photo - the chalk marks the starting...

    1.6 FSI coolant expansion tank

    FSI inlet cleaner?

Based on my experience, I agree with this. When my car had the injectors done earlier in the year there was no carbon build-up worth mentioning. That was after at least 8 years and 50k+ miles of my ownership (looks like it may have been looked at before that but I don't have an invoice). I...

    20 year old FSI MPG

Best I've seen from a single tank was nearly 52 mpg, and that was driving at an indicated 70-75 when on the motorway. I don't normally get that though, the typical amount seems to be 42 - 45 but that's in far from ideal conditions. My mileage is 157.5k now.

    Headlight protection

Not (yet) a recommendation, but I'm going to do this job myself soon and I've purchased Turtlewax 2 in 1 headlight cleaner & sealant. It's supposed to leave protection as you do the final polish. It remains to be seen if it actually works, so I'll report back (eventually).

54 plate Piedmont / Cherry Red Pearl FSi - A303 (west) in Wilts yesterday evening

I was thinking of that one too, I live nearby and walk past it sometimes.

    Longer FSI 5th gear

Doesn't sound like a good idea to me. The FSI needs a 6th gear, not a longer 5th. This mod would just force the driver to hold 4th for longer, worsening fuel economy and refinement at lower speeds.

FSI owners - please check your pipes

I would add #29 - coolant regulator (housing) to your list. Mine had started to leak quite badly when I replaced it. Just make sure that you replace everything at the same time. My experience when I didn't do this...

Not yet, I've been late to the party on more than one occasion! I thought this time I'd just be clear.
