Most responsible mechanics will place a sticker under the bonnet to indicate when the belt was last changed.

    Replacing an A2?

Yeah, I have both ... A2 TDi and i3s 120ah. Normal cars feel slow, rough and noisy once you have got used to electric.

Possible Alternator issue - low voltage

You can check and record/graph the voltage using any OBD2 plug, I used Torque to collect the data on my phone and exported it to Excel - that was how I identified the valtage regulator in my alternator was faulty.

    Replacing alternator

Make sure it's not just the voltage regulator module on the alternator before you splash out on a new one. Unless your alternator sounds a like a bag of spanners it's likely ok. Most garages will just replace the alternator without checking (kerching!). The other possibility is that the...

    Your A2 plans for 2024

Due to the recent aquisition of an i3 my A2 plans are limited, but briefly in time for Feb MoT, get wheel bearing fixed, replace distorted front pepper pot (pothole damage), fix hand brake, wash. Probably followed by return to the back of the garage.

    Tdi 90 cutting out

Mine did exactly that and replacing the camshaft sensor fixed it.

What is the safe maximum wading depth of an A2?

Having found this out the hard way I would say not very deep. It basically stalled in not very deep (but rapidly rising) water and wouldn't restart. Had to abandon it and when I came back the water was part way up the doors and nearly level with the transmission tunnel inside.

    1.4 Tdi Struggling to start..

I've seen fuel filters looking much worse than that, but the fuel filter drain plug screw is sheared off so unless you have fixed that then it will be probably drawing in air, and leaking. The glow plugs definitely help starting but except when it's really cold most cars will start eventually...

Boost cut out on cold engine, accelerating uphill.

Just FYI the fuel filter issue will show no codes - so that can be a big clue.

Boost cut out on cold engine, accelerating uphill.

That sounds quite a lot like the symptoms for a blocked fuel filter as that is when it would be flowing the most.

Death Pipe remanufacture in Stainless Steel. Hopefully now available.

I don't know the part well as I don't have an FSI, but could a 3D printed part be a cost effective alternative? It may not have the same longevity as s/s, or even the original, but I'm guessing it would be a lot cheaper to produce.

    Replacing alternator

I have a slightly dirty workaround for this same problem. Like yours the tensioning nut on mine is damaged and difficult to access, so I remove the tensioner just by undoing the mounting bolts. I then mount the tensioner in the vice and retension it using a 6 point socket, locking it in place...

Swapping the A2 for a BMW i3 - thoughts please

I'm also looking for a 33Kwh Rex as that appears to give significant flexibility that the electric only doesn't. Generally I don't go very far these days and the electric only range would cover going to work (where I can charge for free) and back, if I ever get around to going back to the...
