    Shocking front shock quote

There are plenty of (generic) tutorials on the YouTube if you decide to go it yourself and plenty of people that can help on the forum I’m sure! The starter is really not too bad (on the petrols I may add). I took mine to a local guy, the likes of which you don’t really see anymore. Diagnosed...

Ticking/clinking then red oil can symbol. 1.6fsi

All the coolant plastics are strange at this age, they’re brittle but soft at the same time. The FSI’s run hotter than your average petrol car and that higher temperature and pressure really effects the plastic moulded components (including thermostat housing). Is that pipe part of the...

    2000 Audi A2 1.4 - Random loss of performance / misfire

So today I took the car for a drive and sure enough it started giving me some occasional hiccups. I picked up my Polo dipstick and guide and grabbed an NGK coil pack while I was out. I read the codes when I got home to find only “misfire detected cylinder 4” and removed the coil pack to take a...

    2000 Audi A2 1.4 - Random loss of performance / misfire

Cheers all, Will whip the coil pack off and take a peek and check the earth point in the footwell - if I still get no luck I'll check the ECU pins and plug (if the fault code comes back, I'm hoping the open circuits are a red herring). Nick

    2000 Audi A2 1.4 - Random loss of performance / misfire

I have cleared and just get the EGR fault return, however haven’t taken her for a drive yet. I’ll keep the tablet in the car incase it throws another wobbly - I am leaning towards coil pack as it seems to be when it’s wet that it starts to misbehave. Starter Earth is good, just recently had...

    Shocking front shock quote

It’s a shame your not mechanically minded (easy to say when you have tools, space and knowledge, I know) as this is quite a straight forward job on the A2’s. The shock comes out from the hub assembly without the need to remove the bottom ball joint and is held in place by all of 5 bolts. 3 on...

    2000 Audi A2 1.4 - Random loss of performance / misfire

I'm getting an intermittent loss of performance that develops into a serious misfire. Seems to go back to normal after letting the car sit. From the codes I'm thinking perhaps an earth fault? Will update with fault codes once the fault re-appears to see what's a red herring. 12 Faults Found...

    2000 A2 1.4 AUA - ABS Sensor

And the cheapo sensor has fixed it (until of course, it breaks again, being a cheapo sensor)! Cheers for the help. Nick

    2000 A2 1.4 AUA - ABS Sensor

Cheers all, I’ve got a cheapo sensor from eBay to see if it’s a simple fix, if not it’ll be drum off and inspect time. I don’t have VCDS but the local garage was nice enough to let me read the codes in exchange for lending a hand moving a fridge! Nick

    2000 A2 1.4 AUA - ABS Sensor

Afternoon all, Just got all the work completed following an MOT, just test drive the car and it threw an ABS, ESC and red explanation light at me. Checked the codes with a snap-on solus edge and got: 00290 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor, Rear Left - G46 Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent Only...

Dropping the sump on a 1.4 AUA

No I probably over reacted, I was having a bad day with that A2!!!

Dropping the sump on a 1.4 AUA

Sorry for the slow reply, I’ve been getting her ready for an MOT, it’s been putting up quite a fight. I don’t think it’s got a stellar service history. The block looked okay… ish… there was a dipstick end, I’m going to fit the polo dipstick and blank the service hatch filler and dipstick. No...

Dropping the sump on a 1.4 AUA

Sump is off, offending bolt removed. Sump is full of sludge which explains the low oil pressure warning. With any luck no serious damage has been done to the engine and after a good clean, will be good to go again. Photos here: Sludgy Sump

Dropping the sump on a 1.4 AUA

Thought I’d give a progress update. The offending bolt head has been drilled out, which was overall relatively easy. One problem solved, which creates another. The sump needs to slide out before being dropped down, but is now caught on the remaining bolt. I’ll hammer in a flat headed screw...

Dropping the sump on a 1.4 AUA

To be clear, a good quality long headed allen T-bar, which is the correct tool, was used. The bolts are round headed Allen bolts and do not have a 10mm hex head. The head of the bolt is positioned in such a way that a 5mm allen headed socket will not fit as it is impacted by the gearbox. I...

Dropping the sump on a 1.4 AUA

Unfortunately not, just a round headed Allen bolt! I’ve got a long 8mm HSS drill bit for tomorrow morning, it’s going to be a pain to drill the head of the bolt, that’s for sure.

Dropping the sump on a 1.4 AUA

I’ll have a go, it’ll be a T35 but because of the angle it’ll be difficult, but still preferable to trying to drill it out

Dropping the sump on a 1.4 AUA

I’ve just rounded the head of the bolt - had a draper long reach round headed T-spanner and I thought I’d loosened it, but it must have slipped and rounded the head. Going to have to get a long drill bit and drill out the head of the bolt, I just can’t get onto the bolt square enough to undo...

Dropping the sump on a 1.4 AUA

I thought I had it, but sump doesn’t want to play. I’m rained off for a minute but will be back on it soon. Good advice, I’ll try not to let my impatience get the better of me!

Dropping the sump on a 1.4 AUA

Just thought I’d drop in a note to let people know that dropping the sump on these is a complete PITA!!! I’ve developed a low oil pressure alarm that pops up at ~1500rpm. From experience, I believe this is a clogged oil pickup strainer which was very prevalent in the early 1.8t engines of the...
