Do you want an electric A2?

Here is a small company in Northern France who claim to convert relatively modern cars at low cost (and subsidised by French government with €2.500...€ 5.000). No Audi A2 though (yet?) They have done (and approved) a VW Polo about the same age as our A2's: Conversion kits Fully Charged visited...

    Legal LED H7 *LHD only

@Ducatiric3 : Try proxyparts - plenty headlights left and right from € 25 I have entered my registration 88-LV-LS but all A2's have the same headlights as fas as I know (apart from LHD / RHD). I have these ECE-approved LEDs in my car, but I checked and unfortunately they don't do RHD cars...

Do you want an electric A2?

Interesting modules! Do they have internal BMS for the 12 cells? BMS over the 16 units will not be standard. Can they be installed on their side (15 cm height is more practical than 11 cm)? Do they require cooling? My battery boxes are: - under rear seats: 105 cm by 25 cm and 23 cm deep...

Do you want an electric A2?

I'd say primarily weight (350...400 kgs) and consequently weight distribution (front/rear). Space in the engine department does not allow for a large battery box in the front. The electric motor is rather compact, but you need the motor controller, 12V battery, cabin heater, electric brake...

Do you want an electric A2?

Welcome to the real world ;) I have yet to see a company offering a conversion of any car for less than € 25k (including VAT). Modern cars with many sensors and CANbusses are more complicated to convert and hence more expensive. The A2 is a relatively modern car... Of course you can provide...

Do you want an electric A2?

@DJ 90: That is absolutely true. I know the previous owner replaced about 10 cells of my 86-cell battery pack and I replaced 24. So about one third of the pack needed replacement over the past 9 years. That boils down to about € 1.000 per year. Then again, I bought a converted A2 for just € 6k...

Do you want an electric A2?

@df_efk: Your calculation largely depends upon political decisions: in NL a diesel A2 will cost you € 1.000 road tax per year. Add to that € 1.000 fuel and € 500 extra maintenance (compared to electric) makes €2.500. Charging the electric car at home (15 kWh / 100km and € 0,20 / kWh) is around €...

Cruise control in 90hp 1.4TDI not working

Hi Johann, I did upgrade my instrument panel to full FIS. I assume it was several months later, as I today have two ATL instrument clusters amongst my spare parts (the one with faulty gateway and one with operational gateway left over from the upgrade). You do not say whether or not your ECU is...

    A2 satnav help

You're quite close: it's not a second supply, but there is a SAFE-pin next to +12V and it needs to be on +12V as well. In fact, that is what the red text low on the screen says if you try to enter the code without connecting the SAFE to +12V. And surely, the unit can be used / tested on the bench.

Do you want an electric A2?

The 80 kW sounds like fun, but motor alone is 7.5k, add a battery pack say another 7.5k (30 kWh) and various bits and bobs (drive shafts, fuses, cabling, airco, heater, CAN-simulator, bespoke battery box and mounting brackets, ...) another 3..4k and of course a donor car at 2..3k. That's over...

Do you want an electric A2?

The MiTRE would indeed be a great enhancement to an electric A2 - if it were for sale at GBP 1,000 I'd get one. Assuming the extender produces 15 kW 3-phase power, I would need two extra chargers. But that is always useful as it allows faster charging using a cable as well. You could even...

Do you want an electric A2?

The offer is for a complete A2, converted in 2013. Let's be clear about one thing: you will not find a 200 km range in a converted A2 (for the foreseeable future that is). Driving 100 km typically requires 15 kWh - a battery pack containing this amount of energy will weigh appr 200 kg (for...

Do you want an electric A2?

I have written a program to select data from my CANbus-logfile. I have logged a 20 seconds drive, producing some 9.000 (!) CAN-messages with 14 different message_IDs. Two message_IDs have no data at all; maybe a watchdog ("I'm alive"). On the CANbus it is not clear who sends a message - all...

Do you want an electric A2?

The range number is just an estimation (like for an ICE car) - you can run a 1.4 petrol A2 at 40...60 mpg which makes a 50% difference to your range. The main thing is: you don't want to be surprised by the loss of power and when the remaining battery capacity (or amount of petrol in the tank)...

Do you want an electric A2?

There is no easy way to determine the car's range on a full charge. Range depends on driver behaviour, condition of the battery pack, car mass and (battery) temperature to name a few. In theory my battery pack should be able to deliver 16.5 kWh (86 cells x 3.2 Volts x 60 Ah). In practice compact...

Do you want an electric A2?

Last week I planned the MOT (for only € 15 - Black Friday deal) with a KwikFit-garage in Eindhoven, appr. 10 km from my home. That seemed not too far away, but when my first test drive ended after 7 kms, I got a bit nervous. The controller switched off the motor completely, not quite unexpected...

Do you want an electric A2?

This project certainly was a great experience. Building up knowledge in this new field, helped by the internet and a forum for every subject. In hindsight the symptoms clearly point to a missing phase, but I never dreamt the cause would be this obvious and simple to repair! I suspected the...
