    XTL renewable diesel

Filled up today with standard diesel at the JET garage at Catterick Garrison, 150.9p per litre. Also for sale was XTL renewable diesel at 160.9p per litre. Anyone know anything about it? A quick google - on one forum it was suggested that it might not be suitable for older diesel engines...

    Alarm going off

Just noticed that the alarm is going off several times overnight. I'll try the trick of sticking something on the service flap to ensure that the sensor button is properly shut - it does look as if the service flap isn't fully flush with the bodywork. [ thread under maintenance titled 'Easy...

    airbags

For the first time in years looked at the Service Schedule handbook. Near the back there's a page which says: "Airbag renewal. The airbag system must be renewed by an Audi workshop no later than 14 years after the date of manufacturer". Anyone ever had that done? Sounds expensive.

    aircon

A small problem. The aircon works fine just driving along (regassed not too long ago) but on tickover it's much less effective. Got stuck on the M25 a couple of weeks ago when the temperature outside was 30 degrees and it got to be more than that inside the car. Any suggestions much appreciated.

    Cheap fuel

There have been a few newspaper articles about some garages being all too keen to put prices up but failing to bring them down promptly. I thought it would be worth sharing those that are cheap. A couple of weeks ago, Sainsbury's in Hereford were charging 175.9p per litre, yet at the garage at...

Anyone had this? Turning the ignition on, and I get the low fuel warning light & buzzer - turning the ignition off and then on again I get the 'OK' sign as normal; tried it a few times now. Fuel tank is nearly full. Thanks in advance. Trevor

    Rejuvenating black sills

Just washed and polished my silver A2 as it's coming up to 20 years old. The bits that always looks a bit scruffy are the black sills - any recommendation for making them look smart again ? Many thanks Trevor

    sticking speedometer

Anyone else had this ? The other day the speedometer on my A2 only retreated towards zero very slowly, and when I parked up still showed 10mph. Switching off caused it to drop straight away to zero, and there was no problem the next day. Dust or something in the speedo itself, or an...

    rev counter

Not about the A2, in fact glad ours don't fall into this category. There's a saying that the only dim questions are the ones you don't ask, but all the same this may be a dim question. Most cars since rev counters became standard fitting, since the 50s or 60s, show the rev counter marked in...

Classic cars under £2,000 for young drivers

An article on the above subject in today's Daily Telegraph. The suggestion was that young drivers would learn more driving skills on cars without all the current load of electronic driver aids. The cars selected were: Saab 900; Citroen BX; Fiat Cinquecento Sporting; Skoda Favorit; Mazda MX-5...

    Tesla's travails

Anyone thinking of buying a Tesla? The following was in one of the national newspapers a week or so ago: This might sound like a story about a haunted car; if nothing else, it serves as a salutary tale about the possible perils of self-driving technology.. Geoff Holman took delivery of his...

    Speedometer misbehaving

Noticed this morning that the speedometer was reading 10-15mph above the true speed, so I stopped, turned the engine off, and the speedometer moved back to zero but took a few seconds to do so. Started up again, and back to normal. Anyone seen this before? Thanks everyone.

    Michelin Crossclimates

Over the winter my A2 was on 185/50x16 winter tyres, SE wheels. Now on 195/55x15 Crossclimates, pepperpot wheels, but these give a noticeably harder ride despite the taller sidewall. I suppose that the weight rating (89 for Crossclimates as against 81 on standard tyres) is the reason?

    Power steering failure

Yesterday at Horwich. Called the RAC, they turned up promptly, and got towed down to WOM Automotive. Many thanks due there as Rob sorted me out with a courtesy car at very short notice. Waiting to hear what's failed and will let you all know. Saw another A2 at Horwich as we got under way with...
