Not the … End of the road

A couple of weeks ago my car made an unpleasant noise whilst accelerating from a traffic light on a 40mph dual carriageway in Manchester ATL, something like 205,000 miles, original lots of things … Had it recovered back to Ynys Môn/Anglesey. Local garage diagnosed failed DMF Fair enough: the...

When you park your car, and in the morning the parking place has become a small lake …

Thankfully I had a pair of wellies in the boot, which I could reach from the footway I hadn’t expected that when I parked there the previous evening Quite close to spring tide, and around high water, I don’t think there was anywhere for the rainwater to drain away. When I came back three hours...

    Screen wash issue

I use Quantum screen wash diluted for -5°C (have lived at the coast for past two winters) A couple of weeks ago I topped up the screen wash before a trip to the frozen north (NE Lancashire). Was at my mother’s house for three days, temperature went to -6.5°C at one point as I was driving...

    Decorative trim on tailgate sill

I'm not very diligent when it comes to cleaning my car. I spent a few hours on it the other day; the first time in over six months. I noticed this patchy marking on the "stainless" trim of the tailgate sill (is that the correct term). It was there before I started cleaning; the photo shows...

04 plate, Blue Colour Storm, Cheadle, Greater Manchester

I see quite a few A2s in south Manchester, but around lunchtime today I saw a new one. A lovely 04 plate, Blue Colour Storm at the traffic lights in Cheadle, turning right from the A560 towards Didsbury. If it was your car, congratulations. It looked great!

    Overheating TDI 90 (ATL)

I have had my TDI 90 since 2009. It has always been superbly maintained by the same VAG specialist garage. I am not "mechanical": all I do is maintain a spreadsheet of what has been done and what needs to be done. For the last 18 months I have had an issue with coolant loss. Whenever I check...

DIS ‘OK’ displayed in red with engine running

I have not seen this before, and ‘OK’ displayed in red isn’t in my Owners’ Manual (at least, I couldn’t find it). I noticed it this evening in a short journey; the car was functioning normally. I turned off the ignition and removed the key a couple of times but the issue persists. Car goes...

    Wiper motor refurbishment

My wiper is very noisy and clattery. It functions correctly, so I don’t suspect a faulty earth. My 2004 car has the later aero wiper; this was replaced with a new one a couple of years ago. I don’t think the wiper blade is the issue. I recall in his major engine rebuild, @timmus reports...

    Gel / 3D numberplates

I like the look of pressed aluminium numberplates, and when I received and fitted my A2OC numberplate holders, fully intended to go down that route ... but then I couldn't find a manufacturer who did them without a black border, so didn't proceed. Recently I have seen UK road legal 3D Gel...

Most efficient way to run my TDI 90 around town

I have a bog standard ’54 plate TDI 90bhp (ATL) which I have owned for the past ten years. I have been a participant on this forum for slightly longer: I bought the car on here with 39,000 miles on the clock; it now has 162,000. Over the years I have heard people discuss the optimum engine...

    Coolant spray on header tank

Have recently been having problems with the engine coolant system overheating. 26-Sep-2018: dashboard warning; added 300ml to header tank (ironically the day before ...) 27-Sep-2018: camshaft drive belt / coolant pump replaced (scheduled service item) 27-Sep-2018: thermostat replaced as...

Turn on headlights; windscreen wiper sweeps!

For the past few weeks, when I turn on my headlights, the windscreen wiper sweeps! I am fairly sure isn’t me (suddenly becoming hamfisted after nine and a half years of owning my A2 and) nudging the wiper stalk. I wonder if anyone can explain why this might be? Thank you, Andrew

'55 plate blue A2 at Audi Doctor, Stockport 25-Jan-2019

Does the car belong to anyone on here? James (Audi Doctor) told me the car was waiting for lower wishbones. Andrew PS the old forum software had a map of registered user's locations, is that still available?

    Parking brake query

The parking brake on my A2 (rear disc brakes) has developed a lot of movement before the first click. Is this likely to be cable stretch, and is it something which can be adjusted from inside the car? Thank you, Andrew

Proposed: Definitive A2 servicing thread …

Based on my recent experience of having the cambelt changed for the third time on my TDI 90 (ATL), only then find that I should probably have had the oil pump chain and tensioner done at the same time #13 I wonder if there will be value for all to attempt to pull together the servicing...
