Merry Easter,

I've been searching through posts trying to find out what sort of improvements in acceleration a good remap will do. Thorough testing has confirmed its a good 12 elephants 0 to 60 in stock form.

What sort of times could one realistically expect after an average remap?

Many thanks.

Hi,

I keep on meaning to do a proper 0 to 60 test, but I don't ever seem to get around to it.
For it to be meaningful it would have to be an electronically timed proper test.

All I can say is that the difference is definitely noticeable and whatever the actual times are it feels a lot quicker.

But I am still amazed that the standard 75 is supposed to be 12 seconds or so.
I have driven lots of cars in that 0 to 60 bracket and they feel a lot slower than the tdi 75.
For example I was very disappointed with the feel of the new style Fiat 500, it felt so slow and you had to rev it a lot to get any sense of real acceleration.
With the tdi 75 it seems to go as quick as you want it to (in normal traffic) and I VERY rarely find that I floor the accelerator, even when wanting to move quickly.
Most of that is down to the torque, you really don't have to push it anywhere near the red line and it is actually quicker if you change up at 3,500 revs or even less.

So my (Stealth) remapped tdi 75 now puts out 106 (rolling road) and it genuinely feels like it is around 10 seconds (but as I say that is no real measure)

The benefit you get from the remap is far more than just a 0 to 60 improvement, it just seems so much nicer to drive.

If and when I get around to doing some proper 0 to 60 times (using the iPhone app and also via the wireless dongle in the OBD and some decent spftware) I will post the details on here, but having now started work again my time is now limited.

But the remap has been the best tweak I have done to the car in terms of driving pleasure.

It depends on what you are seeking from a remap. 0-60 in a 3 pot diesel was never my driver for taking the plunge. For me it was the real-world driving experience - improved torque and in gear acceleration making for safer overtakes and spirited driving, and an ability to up shift earlier leading to improved fuel economy and a leisurely driving style/pace in the norm.

In the 6 months I've had the A2 I am very impressed with the whole package. I have even considered perhaps it had already been chipped! It was purchased to be a reliable, economical and safe commuter and that it is.

I will no doubt go down the remap route once the rest of the car is sorted. Until then i'm left to ponder.

I must admit that I have often thought that a tdi had been remapped purely because of the very respectable (for a 3 pot diesel) performance, but now after having owned MANY tdis, they are nippy cars as standard and as I mentioned earlier, they FEEL a lot quicker than they actually are. Which is a perfect combination, you feel as if you are going quickly even if you aren't.
They are a real pleasure to drive and I am someone who really only ever had V8 cars and a few with 0 to 60 times of less than 3 seconds, so I know what "quick" feels like. Because of my previous cars I really should hate the 75 BHP car. (My starter motors have normally more BHP than an A2!!! LOL) but 15 years on I still REALLY enjoy the nippy performance!

12 seconds seems like an age, I'm surprised if they're really that slow. On paper the FSI is WAY faster to 60, but I didn't really feel it when driving a tdi, I was mightily impressed with the grunt of the tdi.

The fsi has a faster 0-60 time than a golf gti of the same age I believe. Unfortunately I have the petrol 1.4!

Well, part of the benefit of a turbo diesel is that the 0-60 time is irrelevant.

My new daily driver has a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds - ridiculous, irrelevant and barely usable in the real world. But I wanted a petrol engine an a large estate car and options are limited.

I regularly drive the A2 (an unmapped TDI 75) and it never feels underpowered. It's the mid range punch that makes it feel so strong and on a motorway it's easy to get to 70. I bet a remap would be awesome!

The best I can offer is a rough reading while my son timed us on the phone - if that was to believed, it was just under 9 seconds. That is after the remap I ad done a while ago.

It just so happens that I have a GTech Performance Meter Pro that has been sitting idle for 10 years (hope it still works). I also happen to have an FSi and TDi90 sitting in the drive. I think that a little test could be on the cards

Is the TDI90 in std or remapped form ?

Assuming std then this is slightly under what a remapped TDI75 should achieve, therefore I would expect a remapped 75bhp TDI to get around 9.6 seconds to 60mph, so if the 12 seconds original is to be believed (personally I think it is less than 12 seconds) then the remap is removing 2.4 seconds from the 0 - 60 sprint - well worth having in my book and to be honest is what I thought when a remapped my own TDI, it certainly still puts a smile on my face some 10 months after I remapped it

Cheers,

Both cars are standard. The 90 has an excellent engine and has loosened up beautifully. I would hope this would achieve some good numbers if mapped.

Hot off the press.

Audi A2 1.6 FSi
Parkers 0 - 60 time - 9.5 secs
My 0 -60 time - 9.9 secs

Audi A2 1.4 TDI 90
Parkers 0 -60 time - 10.6 secs
My 0-60 time - 9.73 secs

I call user error, everyone knows the FSI is the flagship ;););)

Yes

FSI stands for Flag Ship (Intermittently) :D

As a TDI fan I can certainly agree that a sweet running FSI is a pleasure to drive when it has been well sorted and well maintained.

Liv is at Stealth today, having some restorative work done and also a remap. Can't wait to drive her and realise the difference! All this talk is just whetting my appetite further!
