When pulling off in first gear the throttle response is very poor and especially awkward when starting off on a hill. I've only just picked this car up (X reg) so maybe I'm just used to cars with a very possitive throttle.
What happens exactly is when you start to pull off you need give a few extra revs going up hill or even pulling off smoothly from traffic lights etc, you apply more revs but they are not instant and you either end up with too many revs or not enough in which case you stall it.
I know its not me because I am used to driving many different types of cars as I change very, very frequently;) so its either a characteristic of the car is there's a problem....any thoughts?

Which engine do you have?

The post title says petrol Will! LOL I found the same with the 1,4 petrol... but that is after getting out of a diesel with tons more torque...

Here is one of my old posts about it from the archives:

I find in our 1.4 petrol that for a smooth quick getaway, keep the revs up & feed the clutch gradually otherwise bogging down can be quite common. This was similar on our first A2 as well.
If the revs aren't high enough, it's almost like a turbo kicking in when it finally does get around to moving off.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.
Was a Merlot Red 1.4SE petrol originally.
Now an Ebony Black 1.4SE petrol with Red Leather, CC, Symphony + all the previous options we had.

Thanks for the response[24]

Guess its just a natural characteristic then. I wonder if AmD can do anything with the throttle response if I can get it remapped? perhaps it may not give it any extra power but may cure the problem.

It is fly by wire with a computer in the way as well so can be a little strange, when teaching my son to do hill starts I tried showing him how to raise the revs and hold them 0 but they wouldn't stay steady!

Will have to try with the new car and see if it is any different.

i've managed now to get to hill starts on snow without wheelspinning. the trick is to feather the clutch and throttle and let them come with 1200R/min or so and do it slowly and gently.
the "nearly stalled it yet again" effect surprises me at the moment every morning in helsinki, the only way round it is to feather as above, but you don't have to be quite so gentle. thinner soles have helped me again...with the climate control on in the summer it was worse for me.
the throttle response will be programmable, but...will it really help?
