Hi all, pulled gearbox EWQ yesterday only to find out flywheel is no good, very wavy...
Release bearing were doggy for two years and obviously cause the damage to flywheel and release plate.
Local part store cant source me replacement so will have to find one in good nick.
If anyone has a goodin I would apreciate it if I could buy and collect ASAP.
Also if I could have some info on what flywheel from Polo would fit so I can contact breaker yards ect... gearbox codes and engine codes that are interchangeable.
Pics to follow
Cheers

AMF A2s and Polos share the same flywheel, 045 105 269.

Someone on ebay posted used flywheel part number: 045105273 that came off Audi A2 with AMF engine, anyone can confirm this as they are easily available new.
That looks to me to be a dual mass flywheel from a tdi 90. So that would not fit a 75.
You can see two separate contact faces with a gap in the middle.

I did find this, but already got clutch kit ages ago, oh well, have to sell my clutch kit and use this instead, very good price but has to better than what I have at the min, time will tell.

I was going to suggest that option but last time I bought a complete kit it was not for an AMF even though it was listed as one.
Contact the seller with your reg number and/or VIN. So that if it doesn’t fit it is their fault not yours!

The same seller also has the flywheel available with an LUK clutch kit for around £180 so if you already have the clutch kit I would contact them as I'm sure they would be able to sell you just the flywheel on it's own and save you some money ?

Done and dusted too late, did send my reg, paid for it already and will b with me tomorrow, so will c then... its from proper clutch place so should b good.

I've just received solid flywheel and clutch kit with bolts. I will take some more pics tomorrow with packaging removed to look at differences between clutch kits and opt for best quality but think they will be the same.

When you inspect your solid flywheel, check the rim on the back face is cut away like the ebay pic in post 8. This feature is specific to 3 cyl flywheels and I've seen the odd Polo 4 cyl flywheel listed as suitable for the A2 TDi which is not correct.

Thanks Spike, just unboxed everything and this is what I got. Looking at different clutch kits and the one supplied with flywheel has larger surface area, so will go with that one.
Please someone shed some light on warning label as regards to rough up flywheel surface with emery paper, not sure if this is a must and how I go about doing it. I would like it to bed in properly, will have to tell Mrs not to rag her car for at least 100 miles as she don't do long trips very often.

Hi Spike, some more pics of New Flywheel at angle, does this look good to you? I havnt taken off old flywheel yet to check if its the same as I'm working outside, not all of us have a nice garage to work in (dream). It is a struggle to keep dust at bay, but weather has been good.

I've taken out old fly wheel and new flywheel is 3.3 kg lighter. Hopefully there wont be too much more vibrations translated to the pedal and Mrs wont even notice it. End seal had a little bit of oil on it so needed replacing anyway. Keeping old flywheel just in case I will have to get it skimmed at local engineers. I'm not sure what grit paper to use on new flywheel so just using dish wash abrasive pad to roughen up in small circular motions.

If you look closely there is a cut out (weight reduction) on high rim wall on back side of old flywheel, this must be for balance and new flywheel don't have the ridge its just machined flat leaving pressure plate bolts exposed to elements.

Top row, picture 3 shows the back of both flywheels.
By design, the original has a big scoop of metal machined away (between 1 and 4 o clock) and I can't see this feature on the new flywheel.

If you think of the effect of a missing balance weight on a car wheel, imagine how much engine vibration will be caused with a big chunk of cast iron spinning round which should not be there

If I'm reading those comparison pics correctly Don't use the new flywheel

Cheers Spike

PS I don't like the idea of the new one being 3kg lighter either
