1.4 Tdi powe loss

Hello all I recently bought my first Audi A2 and think it's great but after a few weeks I've noticed a few problems and I wider if anyone could help me. Forts thing is the car judders when you try and accelerate like its starving of fuel which really annoying. Also the car is not very good on mpg around 45 to the gallon and is should be 50+. Has anyone got any ideas that I could do first. Thanks

best bet is to read the engine fault codes either using a garage or a simple lead you buy off eBay and connect it up to your laptop.

As previously stated, the engine fault codes would be very useful. This is the first thing you should look at.

Regarding the MPG, if you could answer these questions then we'll have a better idea of what would be expected:

* How long is your average journey (miles)
* Is it stop/start in heavy traffic, or is it steady driving on A roads / motorways?
* What's your typical top cruising speed on the motorway (if you do motorway journeys).

And a few other random questions which might be useful:

Does your temperature gauge reach 90c reasonably soon? (within 5 miles)

Is there any RPM range when the engine is particularly bad?
Is there any RPM range when it feels normal (for example, 1000-1800)?

Does it feel like your accelerator has no effect after 1/3 of the movement?

How many miles has the vehicle done?

Has it had a cambelt change recently? (or any other major work in the engine compartment)

Tyre pressures OK?

Hubs not excessively hot after a long drive?

Im afraid I can't help with the engine judder, but a new fuel filter made a massive difference to my mpg. Also, If you can stick to 2000 - 2500 rpm on motorways and 1500 rpm round town you should get at least 50 mpg, of course if your low mpg is related to the judder problem these measures won't be of use, hopefully somebody can help you get to the bottom of that problem first. I've had mine about 4 years and always had a problem with the turbo rapidly cutting in and out when accelerating hard in fourth and fifth but it's definitely not a judder....

Hello sorry for the late reply. I gave change the fuel filter and it has solved the problem. Thanks much better drive and better fuel economy.
