1.4TDI AMF - what to look for when buying

To be fair , the A2 has a pretty good safety record. The problem is finding skilled workshops that can repair and replace the aluminium components safely. Many insurance companies will write off an A2 just because the costs of having aluminium repaired and it is an easy way out for them.....

Yes there is more weight up front with the diesel but I find this an advantage for traction purposes but not so much for front tyre wear. The gearshift may respond to an oil change and cable adjustment or a selector tower replacement.

Cost, space, time and interest are all important consideration when getting a vehicle.

I agree, for year 2000 was very good and it had ESP which was very rare in its class. This was also the reason we bought our petrol A2 for second car in 2009, because for the budget was the only one that has ESP and quite good saftey record. Ours has also 6 airbags, which was really something rare at that time for the budget.
But in these 20 years there was large advancement in active and passive saftey and you can get a few years old car that has all and more safety tech now. I will see. It is not that the budget is extremelly limited.
Anyway, maybe small addition. It is not important the price (and paid percentage) that the customer requested. Your last sentence is spot on.

Well, to end this thread.
I did not buy that A2, I was looking at a few other petrol A2, but nothing was worth it. The goal for the car was to be a commuter. At the end I bought Auris Hybrid. Miss preferred automatic, so... And I always wanted to dip into Toyota Hybrid powertran. We will see how it will go :).
PS: I am still looking for another A2.🤣

2 pennies worth front screens now getting very expensive, door locks can be fiddly to fix, fault code could be the intercooler matrix, looks like a fair bit of work may be involved to get all systems up and running. Still some good cars out there for not too much money.
