1.6 FSi - Fuel Pressure Regulation Control Range Exceeded?

Hi,
Recently purchased a A2 FSi from a forum member as a little project that i knowingly needed a little bit of TLC.

I ran VAG-COM today and it threw up two codes.

17428 - Fuel Pressure Regulation Control Range Exceeded (P1020 35-10 Intermittent)
17912 - Shareware Version to Decode all DTCs (P1504 35-10 Intermittent)

Any idea on the codes?

The car has had a recent fuel pump fitted about ten months ago that is still under warranty from Audi. The fuel pump did cure the problem for the last owner but it seems that it could be the same problem occurring again?

New fuel pump?

Most of the details of the last fix are located here http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11601

Found fault code 17912 (P1504 35-10 Intake Air Sys Bypass Leak Detected intermittent)

Anyone know where i should check first for air leaks?

Did a new “Fuel Pump” cure your problem manhattan$ as it did paulobrien? Reason I ask is that I have just experienced, (again) both your symptoms regarding:

17428 - Fuel Pressure Regulation: Control Range Exceeded P1020 - 35-10 – Intermittent

The car has just had a major service and runs the best it ever has done apart from today's little hiccup.

Hi, yes Audi fitted a new pump under warranty. The one located under the rear seats.

It cured the problem.

I think it is. Remove one of the rear seats from the car and you will see a big round black plastic disc.

Twist it off and the pump is under there. If you buy a new one, keep your old one as i read that you may have to put a metal bracket from the old one onto the new one.

I would say search the forum for more info on this. Just don't throw your old one away

I think it was a metal arm on the pump that you swap over as some are different angles and can cause a problem.

It could just be on third party pumps?

I would check both and make sure they are exactly the same.

I think i do have a fuel pump, but it is from a tdi so could be a different part number.

Hi Sinless,

As Paul says, you'll need to be careful to retain your original level sender unit when swapping the pump. There are different revisions of the sender, and depending which is refitted, the gauge could go up when the level is going down. Stick with the original sender and you'll be fine! :)

Regards,

Matt.

I'm pretty confident that's correct, yes. :)

Personally, I'd go for an aftermarket pump if the price difference was a lot. As a fairly standard item to most cars, the quality is likely to be good. :p

£219.74p for a Genuine Audi Fuel Pump. Think an aftermarket one is definately on the cards.

There is also a possibility to only replace the fuel pump that's inside the pump housing. I bought one on EBAY for £17 and replaced mine yesterday. The Pump comes with new seals and the only additional piece needed is a hose clamp, size 10mm to 12mm.
The job was done in about 40 minutes.
