Is the strong smell of petrol at the exhaust, under the bonnet, or in the cabin?
Any where but the exhaust, be very careful, as it's a real fire/explosion risk, and probably a leak.
What's the car's history, has it been OK till now, or is it new to you?
What version of VCDS do you have, Free, licenced Lite, or full VCDS?
Mac.

Petrol smell since misfire codes occurred full vcds
OK. The FSI has a high pressure and low pressure fuel system. The low pressure is fed from an electric pump in the tank, which feeds into an engine driven high pressure fuel pump, (HPFP).
With the ignition on, but the engine not running, go into engine controller, Group 140, and make a note, or a pic. Then start the engine, and do the same again. Post up what you see.
The fuel components are mainly on the (Edit) right of the engine, so that's where to look for signs of a leak. Start with the ignition on, engine not running, which will pressurise the system, up to the HPFP, on the (Edit) right hand end of the cam cover.
Good luck, and be careful.
Mac.

I'll give that a go
The previous owner has been chasing running issues on this car for a while. I know because I’ve supplied many parts over the last 12 months. It’s done quite a lot of miles and the garage who was looking after it knows it quite well. Needless to say though, it has been driven daily and soldiered on 👍

I want it running if possible so any help I've just watched garage of dad on YouTube he threw everything at his and it ended up being timing so I think that's next im in bolton if anyone knows good garage cheers

Did you recently sell him some injectors I've just found a bag looks like someone just cut wires to get them out

@sharks Hats off to you for taking this on. I think it may have been the son that you purchased in from, owner/driver was a lovely lady (septuagenarian)

The chap at the garage had some injectors (not sure if he fitted them) but I know some work done to coil pack connectors, high pressure fuel pump amongst other things. I’ll PM you 👍

Yellow peril thread solves a persistent misfire. Worth looking up. The car is for sale in mp and has a link to the thread. De coking the head and the variable flaps seemed to solve it I think.

Ok thanks I actually met pam when I picked it up

Via market place and cars for sale. Pay £2 (i think it is) for one off access to mp. Very useful! Access to regular breakers and parts for sale plus can sell your own stuff.

I think it would be very helpful if you could list as many engine parts that you supplied for the car, while with the previous owners, as long as @sharks is in no agreement.

Hi Mac,

Yes I’ve PM’d sharks.

In the little over 12mths I’ve known the car it’s had injectors, arch liner, rear lamp, a couple of front bumper centre grilles and fog surrounds. Coilpacks. Expansion bottle and a couple of coolant hoses. Last winter the wipers stopped working so I fitted a cable to re-earth the wiper motor.

The engine management light has been on an off, often misfiring but generally used daily as the mot history would probably show, car has done 210k+ miles.

In my opinion, better to start with perhaps a lower mileage motor with less issues. My recommendation would be to book in with Rob & Marcus at WOM Automotive. They recently fettled an FSi for me so I can speak from experience. Don’t waste money on carbon cleans etc - book in for a diag session so they can clear the system, run the car through a few ignition cycles and see what comes back. Any codes can then be looked into via measuring blocks & live data.

@sharks has VCDS, so he can run all the necessary diagnostics himself. Best find out if it's worth the expense of third party involvement first perhaps ...
Mac.
