1.6 fsi

fellow owners out there, been recomended to run my a2 on either super unleaded or shell unleaded, can you recomend a fuel please.

I would recommend Shell Vpower our FSI is it most frugal using it and the performance is much better!! We only use Vpower now tried other high octane fuels but nothing quite matches it.

Give it a whirl worth the extra cost in my opinion

Best fuel

Hi, I can also recomend the Shell 'V' power, my car is a 1.4 petrol and runs really well on this fuel! It does cost a little more but well worth the extra dosh,
Cheers ALAN.

since changing to V Power we have noticed the "lag" / "missing" at low revs appears to have disappeared - the car runs much much better.

thank you

just to say thanks very much for your comments. very relieved to hear about the missing and the lag issues as i have experienced these as well. finding this web site very helpful.

does anyone know if audi are going to make the a2 again, this car is great.

Have you noticed any difference using Shell V-power if so what area's

Cheers
Alan

In our car the acceleration has improved along with performance through all the gears and also fuel economy is marginally improved.

Worth the extra cost.

I ran mine for 10k miles on shell v power and the last 8k miles have been on regular unleaded and TBH I havent seen a great deal of difference, the mpg drop has not been sufficient to justify the extra cost and the performance change has been marginal.

We were having problems with our 1.6 FSI also. It was sluggish and hesitating. The engine management warning was also coming on intermitently. Like a coilpack problem, but they were all checked and ok.

The dealer checked it out and said there was probably a valve sticking due to carbon build up. They told us to try 4 treatments of Wynns engine cleaner and it appears to have worked. The car is running much better.

It's very difficult to get anyting other than 95 RON in Ireland. The AA ran a campaign a few years back showing that very few (if any) cars on the market needed it. The garages responded by taking it off sale. Only Shell sell it AFAIK. I would be surprised if it made any material difference to the performance of the car.

Had my 1,6fsi for five years nearly now. Tried 95 RON at first and it misfired (sometimes badly under load) and was sluggish. Changed to V power and this cured it. But have also used high octane supermarket fuels from ASDA, Sainsbury and Tesco (100 RON very nice) and it has driven just the same, the supermarkets buy in from the major oil companies and have some purchasing clout. When high octane has not been available used 95 RON without problem but this has only been for the odd fill up.

Always has been a little lag but cleaning the throttle body out from time to time cures this, these parts do get gunged up quite often. Next time you get yours serviced ask the garage to do this 10 minute job it makes a big difference.

In my opinion, the best petrol fuel on the market is Tesco's 99 SuperUnleaded - I had my previous A4 V6 custom-mapped on that stuff and it was running a full 6 degrees more advance on 99 Octane over the normal pump gas. Certainly did the job, and less expensively than V-Power.

What annoys me about petrol is that Super Unleaded dropped from 98 to 97 Octane over here for some unknown reason.

Definitely worth running the car on higher-octane if you can.

Thanks for the repys, and comments, glad in a way its not just mine. Spoken to audi leeds this morning and he said that the previous owner probably ran the car on 95 ron petrol and has a carbon build up. he recomended 98 ron (super unleaded) or shell v power, either one would do.

He thought that if the car has a long time on this incorrect petrol it would take quite a few tank fills to clean it out.

Where can i get this wynne cleaner from please very interested in purchasing it.

Thank you

Would i run into problems using V-power on my 1.4 petrol, if not what benifits would i gain.#

Cheers
Alan

AlanA2,

1.4 petrol has no problem with v-power. I had a full track day on v-power and it was great! It makes the engine more responsive. Same advantage when using BP Ultimate or Tesco 99. But I find v-power particularly good for responsiveness while Tesco 99 make my car pull slightly better in 5th on motorway. While I can't say it is faster, it certainly gives more miles on the motorway, whichever brand of super unleaded (i've even tried Total excelium).
