Appreciate you may not be able to do anything about this, but there has been an increase in the number of duplicate or triplicate posts in past weeks. I delete them as fast as I see them but I think it must be down to this 'time out/script' error that pops up immediately after submitting a post.

Is it a hosting problem?

I feel maersk has a jittery mouse finger the amount of duplicates posts he puts up!!!

I have just double posted as i recieved an error message so i re submitted and the post was duplicated if this throws any more light on the situation or maybe Maersk is trying to get hjis post count up!

No, it is that error!. It would appear the post does go in, but then maybe the confirmation screen errors, giving the impression the post hasn't gone through. You repost and then find there are two of the devils!
I'm sure Stuart will work through the night to fix this most terrible issue..... ;)

I did notice a new member today had done the 2 identical post thing, but their total message count was only showing 1. Strange...

Guys - I am aware of this problem...it has caught me out too on more than one occasion and I've spotted it happen to others and have quickly deleted the posts (thanks Steve for your help with this). At the mo, I can only put it down to the absolutely **** hosting we currently have. When our forum guru (Kaine) is next available, I will chat to him about we can resolve this issue or when we will be moving to the new forum - which I have mentioned in the past.

Although I haven't posted any duplicate messages yet, I do tend to run into these 'timeouts' on just about every other page on the forum. Especially pages that require more processing than retrieving just a single-reply item. I.e. forum lists, long topics, active topic overview and, of course, searching through more than 1 subforum at a time.

The search-feature has been like that since I first came here. But the time-outs on the other pages only started happening since a week or two. More specifically, it gets worse during peak internet-usage hours (when there's more than one member around, I guess).

All of this indicates a serious load-related problem with the hosting server, IMHO. Or a big problem with the database.

What kind of hardware is this forum running on? And what other purposes does it have? Did any of the other applications hosted on the machine start to get really popular, thus supressing this forum? If so, there should be service level agreement with the provider, shouldn'it it?

Anyway, I might be totally wrong. Especially if the forum is hosted in a more private environment. I really appreciate the effort you are putting in to this. Don't get me wrong :)

Cheers,
Edo
