109 relay location a2 1.4tdi ?

Hi Guys,
STILL can't sort out why my 1.4tdi dies when it gets up to temp.
It starts first time when cold and keeps going fine until it gets up to temp and then the fuel seems to cut off until it cools.
Have changed coolant temp sensor, fuel temp sensor, fuel filter and have read lots of forums.
Is it possible that there is a problem with the 109 Relay?
If so where will I find the little blighter? Does the A2 AMF have one of these?
Thanks in anticipation.

Have you had a scan done? Any error codes?

Is the fuel pump ok?

Hi there,
Yes, I bought a VAG/Audi 105 scanner. Only code at the mo is gloplug flameout but don't think that this is the problem.

Is there a member locally that could carry out a VCDS scan for you, that might be more informative.

That would be great. My scanner is an Autec one - are they no good?

I don't know that model, but I do know that the VCDS is the best available generally (and at just under £300 they are top end)

I bought one some time ago and it has paid for itself MANY times over (especially since we have 6 Audis in the family, 5 A2s and an A6)

Those symptoms can often relate to a faulty crankshaft sensor which in the early stages may not show up on a scan.
A scan however is always the first line of troubleshooting which is most reliably done with VCDS.
There is an industry standard for emissions related fault codes so that test agencies can use one scanner to check any vehicle for related infringements. Generic scanners do a good job of detecting these fault codes but may fail to pick up other more unique codes relating to specific car models.

VCDS can also be used on non VAG car models but again will not diagnose other car systems. I used mine recently to fault find a lambda sensor heater circuit problem on my wife's Daihatsu Terios but it was not able to check any other system on the car.

The glowplug flameout error you've noticed is going to be related to the Webasto additional heater. You'll probably notice it doesn't work when temperatures get down to 5°C or lower.

As others have said, getting the car scanned with VCDS is your best option. VCDS is more than just a fault-code scanner, so a good tech should be able to use its functions to narrow down the cause of your troubles.

Cheers

Thanks Spike I will try changing the sensor. Anyone know where RELAY 109 is?

I will have a go at this. Does anyone know where relay 109 is situated on an A2?

I have the freeware version of VCDS if this is of any use, I can check basic things like fault codes and some measuring blocks, but not much else unfortunately. I also live about 3 miles from Chester city centre if this helps.

Regards,

Matt.
