Much to my surprise, I am no longer the owner of an A2. My A2 has gone to a good home and is now owned by my Brother. So for now, it is staying within the family and I won't be losing touch with it entirely. It was mine from 000,000 to 111,111 and I hope with its new owner will continue to 222,222 and beyond.

My new car is a VW up! A High up with a few options.

A big THANK YOU to the owners and members of this web site for all the helpful information that it has made available over the years. You have made owning an A2 even more of a pleasure and I recommend you highly to all owners of A2s. You have built a resource that contains a wealth of facts available at the click of a search button or by posting a question. I wish you luck with this site and with your cars. Who knows, if Audi ever sell the A2 again, I might be back.

Still a fan, just not an owner.

John.

All the best John. Keeping my A2 for the forseable future.
Nice choice of car, reckon VW could be persuaded to launch a Yorkshire version for tykes like me? Quite fancy an Ay-Up!

How does the UP compare to the A2

Cheers Spike

There's a long answer and a short answer to your question. I'll save the long answer for another day when I have owned the up! for more than a few days and put a few more miles on the odometer.

The short answer first.

It should come as no surprise that the quality of the internal finishes and the audio system is much better in the A2. If Audi do anything well, it is interiors!

Most surprising difference, is that the up! has a longer wheelbase than the A2. 2420mm compared to 2405mm. It really has a wheel at each corner.

Most obvious difference inside is that there is more room for the driver's left foot in the up! I'm talking about a right hand drive version here.

Finally, for now, the quality of the ride in the up! is balanced more towards comfort and away from sporting. Speed humps can be negotiated without having to slow down so much and I have yet to have the suspension hit the bump stops in the up!. You can opt for lowered suspension and low profile tyres on some models, but that was something I was keen to avoid this time.

More soon...

Think they are already planning one, its called the e-up...will be parsimonious too which will appeal to Yorkshire folk!

Just realised today that 2013 will mark 10 years of A2 ownership for me...am sure that the time will come to say farewell at some stage but not any time in the foreseeable future....I still habitually look out of my window and check my little car is still there and looking as thoughtfully put together as ever!

Of new cars I do like the up!, exclamation mark and all...something fresh and unassuming about it. The sort of practical and utilitarian car VW started out making. Be interesting to see how you get along with it John.

Keep the reports coming in on the Up! John - interested to here how it compares, as a poss future a2 replacement. Is it a 60 or 75bhp model? Have you investigated chipping it? Any reason you picked it over the Citygo? How's the actual MPG?

Having looked at the VW Up!, Skoda Citigo and the Seat Mii, my wife bought the Seat Mii: we got a much better price on the Mii, with the sat nav/trip computer thing thrown in. Our son is learning to drive in it: group one insurance (60bhp) was a significant factor in choosing one of the three.
It is a very popular car in our house. I haven't driven it but travelling as a front seat passenger is a pleasant experience.

Seat, Skoda or VW?

Russ,

Car is a 75bhp or High up! in VW terms. I think VW have already chipped it to a degree to increase the output of the 999cc engine from 60 to 75. I believe there is a GT version coming, which I'm guessing will have around 100bhp.

I downloaded brochures for all 3 variants, Seat, Skoda & VW and studied the specifications to see what I could get for my money. High on my list of wants was a more comfortable ride, so I was looking to avoid lowered suspension and low profile tyres. I also wanted the 75bhp engine. I ruled out the Seat first. Some of the photographs in the Seat brochure make the car look like it has four sumo wrestlers on board. Put me right off. I looked at the Skoda in the showroom and was quite impressed. Sadly the 75bhp version is only available with lowered suspension, though it does have 14" wheels. Delivery was quoted at 12 weeks. Finally I looked at a VW up!. Took it for a test drive and was happy with the standard height suspension and 15" wheels. VW do not have 14" alloys in any of their up! range, only steel wheels, otherwise I might well have gone for 14". The Seat's 14" alloys looked the best to my eyes. Delivery was also quoted at 12 weeks, but as luck would have it, they had a car in their stock which was close enough to my ideal specification and it could be mine the next week. So after a little haggling, the deal was done.

Actual MPG is not available yet as I have only filled it up once so far, but the Maps & More or DIS in Audi speak shows an average of high 50s MPG.

Wife loves the heated seats and I love the cruise control. I've loaded a microSD card with FLAC files, so I now have lots of albums to play without the car filling up with CDs. I am missing the electronic climate control and the low down torque of the A2's diesel engine, but it is nice to have an engine that warms up super fast.

John.

Thanks for that John.
I think that the dash in the VW makes it for me - it seems to add a layer of quality missing in the other two interiors.
Hope you enjoy it.

It will play FLAC as standard? Impressive!

MP3, WMA, OGG Vorbis, AAC as well as FLAC are the audio file formats supported. The maps and more device is a Garmin Navigon 70 Automotive satnav, which seems to be a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 device. The microSD card plugs into the satnav and can be up to 32 gigabytes in size. The satnav has contacts on the rear, which wires the device to the car when clipped to the mount. It also can accept music from a Bluetooth equipped media player, but I have not tried that yet. As you said, impressive!
