14 inch wheels on my A2 ?

Hmm, can one hope that steel 14 " wheels with 185/70-14 winter tyres, originating from a 1999 Skoda Octavia will fit my (first) 2002 A2 1.4 petrol?
Bolt pattern and ET seems same, but is there space? Brake caliper or brake hoses? Inner wheel arches?
Perhaps I should look for 15 " instead, even if that will mean additional money spent.

This might help....

185/70/14 a little big but you might get away with it.

Thanks. (odd, why didnt I find that when I did a search on 14 inch wheel yesterday?)
So 14 inch rims themselves seem to work, good.

my mum had some 14" alloys for winter on her a2 and they worked fine though would rub on full lock cause rubber was over-sized and it felt really strange to drive due to how chunky they were felt like those bicycles with huge chunky tires. (tdi 75) they were with studs as well. was a bit silly to be honest.

Not really odd, more expected. The forum search is poor in that it ignores words less than four letters, not helpful on a car forum littered with two and three letter acronyms, eg. ABS, EML, ECU, LED, PDC, CC and many many more. A forum search '14" wheels' ignores the 14, informing as such at the top of the search results, making the search results useless for 14" wheels. In cases like this a Google search such as 'a2oc 14" wheels' is often more fruitful.

The diameter of the A2 front discs is 256mm, so 14" wheels do fit.

Available 14" steel wheels include:

5Jx14 ET35 5/100 57.1 (Alcar 5210)
5Jx14 ET38 5/100 57.1 (Alcar 3055)
6Jx14 ET37 5/100 57.1 (Alcar 7250)
6Jx14 ET38 5/100 57.1 (Alcar 7600)

Possible tyre sizes include:
165/70R14
175/65R14
175/70R14
185/65R14
185/70R14
195/60R14
195/65R14
205/60R14

I would suggest 185/65R14 on a 5Jx14 ET35 rim as it has about the same outside diameter as 175/60R15, 185/50R16, 205/40R17, so keeps the gearing standard. 185/65R14 is also a common size, so there's plenty of tyre choice and low prices. 175/65R14 is an even more popular size and would also be a good choice. 175/65R14 has the same outside diameter as 185/55R15. 175/70R14 is yet another good option, which has the same outside diameter as 185/60R15.
