15" Pepperpots

dodders

A2OC Donor
Just bought a set of 15" pepperpots and they are shod with 195/65/R15.
Is this the OEM size from factory?
Also will this effect the speedo reading at all?
Thanks

Definitely not a standard A2 size since pepperpots were never an OEM rim for the A2. On a 15" wheel the OEM tyre size is 175/60. I've run 185/65 on pepperpots on a standard suspension setup without any obvious issues, untested with regard to heavy loads in the back, although full lock worked fine. I can't speak for 195/65 tyres or a car on lowered suspension though. Speedo accuracy (under-reading) is a factor with all greater-than-OEM sizes.

Thats put the cat amongst the pigeons!
Looking at the tyres that are on there at the moment(Pepperpots) at 195/65/15 ,a new set of cross climates are 250 fitted.
185/60/r15 are 340
195/55/r15 are around the 340 mark which would have the same rolling circumference as the 17 sports that are on there now.

Just checked ebay and there are not to many for sale but the ones that are, are all 195/65/15
any advice why would be gratefully received
Thanks

You have the standard size for the A3 - the car those wheels came from. Most run these wheels with 175/60 or 185/60, also quite a few run 195/55

Pepperpots are an A3 (8L) wheel, not an A2 wheel, although they fit the A2 because they have the same PCD and centre bore and a suitable width and offset. 195/65 will be a standard size or a popular replacement for the A3.

If it was my dilemma, I'd fit them to the A2 as they are and see whether they fit in the arches or rub on full lock or when there's weight in the back seat or boot. If that doesn't throw up any problems, check the speedo against a sat nav (or whatever device you use) to see how much, if any, it's out.
If there are any fitment issues, keep looking for suitable tyres.

The outside diameter of 195/65R15 is too big for the A2.

185/60R15 is probably the most popular choice for Pepperpots on the A2.

Out of the two which would be best for comfort? as price are the same.
thanks

Good idea. I'll check to see what condition the old tyres are first when i collect them.
thanks

But not much in it, let’s face it!

185/60R15 fitted to a 6J rim has a noticeably better ride compared to 175/60R15 fitted to a 6J rim.

Not only does the 185/60 have almost 6% higher sidewalls than 175/60, but when they are both fitted to 6J rims the 175/60 sidewalls are more stretched. Fitting tyres to relatively wider rims makes the ride harder, as the tyres' sidewalls don't flex so easily.

If you compared 185/60R15 fitted to a 6J rim to a 175/60R15 fitted to a 5.5J rim, then the difference in ride comfort would be closer.

185/65R15 is noticeably more comfortable than 185/60R15 and a good deal cheaper. With a 1.4TDI you've probably got enough low down engine torque to pull the 5% higher gearing comfortably, but it might not be such a good idea to oversize the tyres with the 1.4 petrol engine due to this engine having significantly less low down pulling power than the turbo diesel engine.

Went with the cross climates(185/60) in the end as kwik fit (luckily my local KF are OK) had discount code which brought them down to £295 fitted.
Alot more comfortable over uneven roads.
Thankyou all for your advice.

Looks like the fronts (or at least the one we can see) might need a little more air. Might be worth checking?
