185/55/16 tyres

I know it's not quite your answer, but I've got 195/55/16 on my SE rims, and they are absolutely fine. Normal suspension height.

Here you go, I'm running 205/50/16 and they rub a tiny bit on full lock when the car has more then one passenger.
185/55/16 will be virtually the same diameter as my set-up.
Note I have a 1.4tdi Sport without OSS, car weight / suspension set-up will make a difference here.
Edit: as your choice is 20mm Skinner than mine that should give you more clearance on the inner wheel arch at full lock.

Has anyone used 185/55/16 tyres on standard A2 alloy wheels?
Any issues?

You'll have no issue with fit or clearance, providing your car is standard SE spec. However, your speedo reading will probably be absolutely spot-on, with no margin for error whatever, and you need to keep that in mind.

You will of course need to inform your insurance company.

Just worth mentioning that Aegis Insurance (via broker) considered the 185/55/15 tyres an 'unacceptable modification' and I would invalidate my cover if I had them fitted. Stayed with 185/50s as I did not have time make further enquiries. Not sure if the person I spoke to really understood what I was asking as we seemed to go around in circles talking about aftermarket alloys and wide tyres. I had to make the point several times that I was just changing to a slightly taller tyre (same width) on the factory fitted alloys.
Ultimately hoping to switch to 15" pepper pots so may have to change insurers??

That is absolutely rediculous. If you have any modifications to your A2 I’d highly recommend Adrian Flux insurers. They understand car enthusiasts and don’t penalise them for it.

? My 55 plate 75tdi SE standard alloys has 185 55 16 tyres fitted. Can I swap them for 195 55 16? @Robin_Cox seems to have this size fitted. Very slightly deeper and I can get some good ones at a bargain price.

I ran with 195 55 16 on my 75Tdi SE for the first five years of ownership but have recently replaced them with 185 50 16, which I believe is the factory spec. My observation is that the 195s overgear the A2, making it virtually impossible to use 4th gear in 30 mph zones, where I do a lot of my driving. Since changing to the smaller tyres, I can use 4th much more frequently in built up areas, acceleration in all gears is improved and the car handles even better than before on faster winding roads. If your use is predominantly away from 30 mph zones, the 195s would be fine but, otherwise, it's a choice between price and the benefits of 185s that I've mentioned.

I run pepperpots with 195/65/15 bit close slight rub on front on full lock and with mudflaps...mines a TDI sport no issues as I’m usually the only person in it and I just tootle about like riding on 4 pillows under me???

Sorry they are 50.....no idea where I got the 65 from !

Thanks

If you open the fuel flap the recommended tyre pressures are on the inside of the flap.

For two passengers is 30psi front 29 rear
Fully laden with four passengers and luggage is 35 front 38 rear ?
