2 stroke oil in diesel...anyone tried it?

I have been using semi synthetic 2T for around 6 months and 4000 miles now and am quite amazed by the difference it has made, the tick over sounds like " a well oiled machine" and very smooth. I can change up a gear sooner with none of the harshness it seemed to have before, much quieter on the road. I definitely recommend any A2 TDI owner to at least try a couple of tank fills. I pay £9 a litre from Mobil and add 150 ml to a tank. I have read that many people add any 2T but I would suggest only use the low ash standard.
I have used it in my Audi A6 1.9 130 sport for a similar period same improvements as the A2 but have an increase in mpg up to 10% and reduction in exhaust smoke when pushing it, so well pleased.

I think I will carry on with the XR77 that Alex (Motorsport) recomended, that is synthetic and sems to be doing the job and I agree with Adrian about not just using any.

I have not yet dipped my toe in ... but i always run on premium diesel so if i give 2 stroke a go ... would it be sensible to just use basic diesel as oposed to premium ?.

Good point.
I wouldn't use it on premium fuels.
It is ok to, of course, but why pay for the premium fuel and then add even more cost (for the two stroke).
Plus I would imagine that you are duplicating some of the benefits but not getting twice the benefit, if you know what I mean.

Ive used vsx shell semi synthetic, when I changed the fuel filter there was a bit of thick jelly in there , I would stick to pure mineral 2 stroke, this will mix completely with diesel

Thread revival I know but it’s intereting reading.

I recently replaced the fuel filter on our TDI that shamefully I’d never done and we’ve had it about 60k miles..... I know :(
The point is, that had some kind of black jelly in it, so I don’t think it’s related to the oil.
Ours is quite noisey now and on 150k miles, so going to give it a shot of millers and 250mls of oil then start regularly using the oil then on, so will report back,
Just got some Halfords own brand non synthetic

Interesting. Have dosed my 2 up with Stanadyne Additive and only She’ll fuel but both now much smoother. Maybe time for supermarket fuel and 2 stroke oil!

This is what Schnelletrecker wrote in 2006 -

"Hi. I've been mixing 2-stroke oil with Diesel for several years for the 1.4 TDI and fully recommend it to any PD Diesel engine user (also to any Common Rail engine user). All benefits have been listed already here. In Germany especially Taxi drivers swear by adding 2-stroke oil to their diesels.

The best positive effects ("quiet" engine + lubricating/cooling/cleaning the injection system + lower fuel consumption) are achieved by mixing 1:150, meaning 200 ml into a 30 l tank.

Be sure to buy only semi-synthetic oil featuring the combined specification of
API TC + ISO L-EGC + JASO FC since that type oil generates virtually zero % residues while burning. Please don't take L-EGB or L-EGD or others..."

I've been using this for about a year, and it's noticeable on the few occasions that I don't that the engine is significantly more noisy. I use LiquiMoly from Demon Tweeks.

Is it this one?

Goggle M&P Motorcycles they do the Motorex two stroke T2 oil required add 200ml to a tank for a tdi 75 and 250ml to a tank for the tdi 90

Hi folks... in haste...

Be sure to buy only semi-synthetic oil featuring the combined specification of API TC + ISO L-EGC + JASO FC since that type oil generates virtually zero % residues while burning. Please don't take L-EGB or L-EGD or others...

This is crucial. There's good scientific reason this exact spec must be used. Don't just use any semi-synthetic 2-stroke oil available at Halfords, etc, unless it meets this precise specification.

...add 200ml to a tank for a tdi 75 and 250ml to a tank for the tdi 90

This isn't quite accurate. You use 200ml per tank if you have a 34-litre tank and 250ml per tank if you have a 42-litre tank. All TDI90s have the 42-litre tank, but so do many TDI75s.

I've added API TC + ISO L-EGC + JASO FC to every tank of fuel for the last 100,000 miles. I'd highly recommend it.

Cheers,

Tom

I think this is what is known as diesel bug - its really due to the filter not being changed. I changed my filter around 10 months ago and it had never been changed in 120k miles/ 13 years and was also suitably disgusting.

I've been using Filtered diesel for the last 9 months and boy has it made a difference. More power and over 10% gain on fuel efficiency. I still add 50ml of mineral 2 stroke to a tank full tho.
This is the diesel I use...
http://www.eko.com.cy/en/stations/products-2/diesel-avio/
Filtered to the purity of aircraft fuel at only 6 cents a litre extra.
I don't know if it's available in the UK but if it is then try it. Best thing since a remap.
