2 stroke oil in diesel...anyone tried it?

Anything out there with the correct spec that doesn't cost £9 a litre? Seems fairly steep for 4 doses

Where are people sourcing their Shell VSX 2T please? I have tried 3 Shell Garages near me with no luck! In one the answer was go to Halfords.

Just picked up 4 litres of silkolene scoot on eBay for £25 inc a 10% eBay special code. Looks to have the required specification so will give it a go

Yes, that's a more reasonable cost. The previously recommended oil WAS available in 1, 4 and 25 litre volumes (according to the Internet). (and therefore might have been at a lower cost with a larger amount being purchased) It has occurred to me that when you add the cost of the oil addition to the diesel fill-up, it's going to add about 8 pence per litre to fuel. I recently noticed diesel at 160 pence per litre (admittedly, that was premium diesel) I read that of all products, automotive fuel is said to be the most price-sensitive. Who hasn't chosen a fuel station because it is at a lower price for fuel? Never-the-less, I think that I'm going to give this silkolen scoot a try ..... I've noticed that my engine has become quite a bit noisy, recently!
Oh, a question for "cheechy" ..... Where is the 10% Ebay special code that you were able to use, please? Thanks

David

Sorry didn't pick up reply before now. I just got a temp code from eBay that ran out on Friday evening. They do this fairly regularly but you always need to be quick....

Yes, and it's back, now! I think that I'll wait until you've tried it and I'll see what you can tell us all, regarding engine smoothness and quieting? That would be good of you to let us know.

I've been using Filtered diesel for the last 9 months and boy has it made a difference. More power and over 10% gain on fuel efficiency. I still add 50ml of mineral 2 stroke to a tank full tho.
This is the diesel I use...

Filtered to the purity of aircraft fuel at only 6 cents a litre extra.
I don't know if it's available in the UK but if it is then try it. Best thing since a remap.

interesting! i haven't seen it in the UK yet, but i do work on helicopter but that fuel is monitored quite closely ;)

I'm about half-way through a tank of supermarket diesel added on top of a 250ml Redex bottle containing 150ml of 2-stroke supplemented with 42ml of 2EHN (cetane enhancer) and diesel Redex to the top - adding the 2EHN arose from a discussion on another forum about the contents of "premium" blends of diesel. To begin with, I didn't notice much difference, but 270 miles later, I've started believing that the slightly lumpy feel at low rpm (ie 30-35mph in 5th) on the commute has gone completely and the engine seems much smoother. Whether this is complete placebo effect or something actual is unclear. Total cost was around £2.40 for the additives per filling in a tankful, so equated to around 6p / litre - and that could be reduced a wee bit by purchasing larger volumes of the stock bottles.

@DJ 190 - you've got a background in fuels - any thoughts (or concerns)?

MD Racing seems the keenest pricing around just now at just over 24 pounds for the 4 litre Scoot 2. Just ordered, next delivery at no charge too. Will see if it turns up as ordered.

I've done around 100 miles since add in. Truth be told I'm not sure if I'll ever know the true affect of adding scoot to the tank since I got the timing belt and oil chain done just before I added.

Car power and refinement massively improved.... I'll keep adding scoot and redex to maintain this as long as possible

Hmmm part way thro a tank pf Asda diesel woth 2 stroke oil added.
Not sure about any noise improvement but consumption worse than when running on Shell.
Lets see????

I’m 150 miles in on my 1st tank with approx. 200ml of scoot added and to be truthful... I’ve not noticed any reduction in engine noise as yet.

In the £225 A2, I also added a dose of redex along with 200ml of scoot, that had the effect of making the engine run a little rough on tickover to start but now seems to have settled back to normal. Again, I am yet to notice any difference in engine nose
level after 100 miles.

Maybe it will take another tank before any potential change?

Or it could be that I’m just a deaf old duffer!
