Just covered 20,000 miles in my AMD A2, its been really great, I haven't enjoyed a road car so much for years, just can't believe how few people have caught on to this "mini supercar".
My first ride in an A2 was with an instructor at the famous Nurburgring Circuit in Germany (which i visit at every oppurtunity) when the car was first annouced, it was fantastic, a 1.4tdi with a great Ringmeister driver actually passed and drove away from a BMW M5 on the rain swept circuit, I just had to get one.
My car had initial turbocharger problems, but after lots of attemps by my dealer to fix the problem failed, they relented and fitted a new turbocharger, it been perfect. Added the AMD chip after about six months, this has just given the car an "edge" which makes it much more fun, doesn't seem to have effected the economy. I'm very lucky and have a couple of "track Porsches" which i would normally use for fun on the road in the summer, but the A2 is so great to drive the Porsches have been used only for track work !

What do I like:
The look of the car, every seventies schoolboy dream car "doodle".
The very high build quality
The fantastic frugality
The breathtaking chassis, the turn-in is just so sharp
The added punch of the AMD kit, makes it feel so lively
The driving position, the best of anything I have ever driven, including a McLaren F1 Steet car !
The open sky system that I use constantly.

What I don't like:

Audi dealers, frankly a disgrace.
Audi customer service, lets just fob you off.
Got my first puncture last week...no tyres available...a disgrace.
Getting conned into buying an older spec small fuel tank car two days before the larger tank was annouced !

What I'd like to see developed:

More power and torque
A six speed gearbox
More development on ride quality, deletion of the slightly strange front to rear pitching.

What I'd like to know :

What is the typical range of the newer large fuel tank tdi ?
What has been done to the newly annouced 90bhp tdi, will AMD be able to improve on it still further ?
How bad is the ride on a 17" wheel sport suspention pack car, compared to the 16" standard wheel and suspension car ?

Regards,

Hi Tim,

Welcome to the forum. Also I must applaud your excellent first post - you've managed to sum up the general opinion of the pro's and con's that most of us feel on the forum.

Picking up on a few points you have made;

Agree - In my opinion, the A2 is the only car in the Audi range with such charateristics. I recently took the new A3 and A8 on a test drive - both felt a bit vague up front when at speed - the A2 is much better.

Partially agree - I have the standard seats, and some times feel I am sitting on the car, rather than in it - maybe sports seats would change that. General driving position however is pretty good.

Personally I haven't experienced any problems yet, however from the general forum response this does seem to be the case. Is it because 'its only the A2'?? Would they be different if we had purchased an RS6?

That is probably the only gripe I have with my A2. However I still get more out of each fill up than I did in my old Fiat Coupe, and for far less

Agree - Just would add a webasto FFH as standard.

Just a 'quickie' . This AMD conversion - does it affect your warranty, how much does it load your insurance and how much does it cost. Also, doesn't the extra power make some of the gears seem even 'shorter' than they already are? I find that when ragging my TDI SE the lower gears are gone in a flash and progress is hampered by frantic gear changing. [21]

Ours has a Superchips conversion - and yes - 1st and 2nd are 'gone in a flash'. I've now learn't that although the engine happily revs to a much higher rpm than standard, it is pointless pushing it higher than 3000 to 3500 as most of the power is in the 2500 to 3000 range.

It would affect the warranty on anything related to the extra power.
As for insurance, if I remember rightly, it has added about £45 to our annual premium
