Hi it is always helpful to add what engine your asking about ---stab in the dark time. 1.6fsi I would say its the Possibility of the EGR feed pipe that's cracked causing fresh air to be drawn into the exhaust resulting in sensors altering the mixture out of limits. It could also be the NOX sensor has failed. If you search on here there are many posts on the cracked egr pipe and its replacement.
Hope this helps. Cheers mike

Sorry mike yes it's a 1.6 fsi thanks for the info will check this out and post my findings.

Hi all,

just to report back I fixed the problem as mike suggested it was the nox sensor at the front (pre cat) replaced it myself, got the part for around 80 pounds not Audi OEM but Bosch via euro car parts also changed the rear one as well but I will strongly recommend to do this with the aid of a ramp/ lift. luckily a friend of mine has one. I used his tools or better off going to a garage as they are hard to take off even after a whole afternoon of wd40 and heating with a blow torch I ended up using a 21mm spanner that was hammered on and then off it came with a few bangs of the hammer again.

Did this sound like it had an exhaust blow as I’m having the same problem?
This thread has been dead and buried for 8 years - can you provide some basic information about your car (which engine), and the symptoms / diagnostics and any other pertinent info that you have got so far?

I realised that once I’d posted??‍♂️

my 2003 1.6 fsi is down on power so I gave it a full service it was a little better new plugs too then I had it on diagnostics two codes cam up one for cam position sensor and one for air intake leak but I can’t find a leak, it kind of also sounds like there is an exhaust leak under hard acceleration but there’s not??‍♂️ Any help would be much appreciated

Don't worry - I've done that once or twice here myself!

I'm not an expert on the 1.6 or much of a mechanic but several other people are and may well be able to give you much more assistance - keep the faith, someone will be along soon! I am reasonably handy at finding parts or identifying part numbers once it has got to the stage of looking for them though.

The only thing I really know about the 1.6 is that you need to run it on 98 or 99 fuel, not 95, no ifs or buts. On our 1.4 some of the air leaks can be caused by daft things like the oil cap on top of the rocker cover no longer sealing perfectly - look around the cap for a slight misting of oily residue - buying a new one in from Febi or a similar supplier with a more resilient seal can be an easy and cheap fix to some of the problems. Same goes with the fuel filler cap - there is a vent built into the lid relating to air pressure within the fueling system, if this is worn out it can also cause unexpected weird errors relating to air levels being a bit out which in turn gets the FSi fuelling system hunting around to try to get the air to fuel residue perfect again with concomitant wonky mixture / fuelling going on. Neither cap costs more than 9-12 quid each online. Also as there are that many sensors in the FSi to make it work properly, if any of these are beginning to get old it can contribute to issues.

Best of luck!

Robin
