50mpg for a 1.4 petrol

Ive just gone back to Shell ordinary unleaded as I didn't notice any advantage on V power, though I must say I thought it felt a bit rough on ordinary when I first drove off, more noticeable than when I went to V power. Will see if it does any less to the tank but might not be a good guide as it just had a mot so long time on tickover plus a bit of revving to clear system on way to garage. (Emissions were below normal ??) Didn't seem to get any more mpg on V, just £3.40 extra each fillup. I'm normally getting 45-46 thats by driving like a granny, no high revs, 60mph max on main roads, lots of coasting etc. Bet you would love being stuck behind me. I think it would need to be up by 5mpg to justify price difference. Cheer Colin. Ps. run my 195 x 50x 16 Kumho KH17's at 32psi rear 34front.

I'll have to check, but I'm pretty sure I'm running 2.6 / 2.8 which is around 40psi at the back... 32 is too low for decent economy.

40psi?!? I ran 34 at the front and the ride was just acceptable before I fitted the Eibachs. I did the trip on 34psi all round and the ride was truly horrible in the rough motorway and town roads in Belgium! I cannot imagine what it feels like at 40psi even if it gives me 50mpg! Bret, don't you have the Eibachs as well? I've since dropped the fronts to 30psi and it is a lot more acceptable, but limited to town driving so not worth calculating mpg difference.

Colin, I did get 45mpg the one time I drove 60mph all the way (departed too early) on M4 and I had Tesco 99. And no problem with people driving at 60, I often drive 65mph too but I make sure I stick to the left lane at every opportunity. But I don't hog the middle lane even if I was driving faster anyway.

jep, Eibachs, FSDs and 40psi. I'll check the pressures over the weekend, just to confirm. And maybe do a quick video or two, since there's only me and the little monster and then you can see how bad the roads are.

I've tried all the super plus fuels.
we dont have total up here but the best was Esso by far and thats me a Bp driver!

I used to use the Tesco 99 momentum until I found out its got a really high amount of Ethanol in it rather than additives to spike it upto 99 octane.

Dont you just hate those middle lane hoggers Humps, they really annoy me. I always get told off by my passenger because I refuse to go on the motorway if there is a (usually picturesque and empty nearby main road) ie A4 as opposed to M4 in Berkshire or A38 v M5 down here. I have tried higher pressures but find 32/34 about the limit for 'comfort' what ever that is. Cheers Colin.

Gong went off at 312 miles on ordinary unleaded. Thats 12 less than V power. That means £3.40 for an extra 12 miles. Nah. think it's ordinary for me from now on. It was nice not to hear that awful noise for a bit longer, but not worth £3.40. Cheers Colin

50.4mpg... at last I've managed 50mpg! It's taken me 80 000 miles, since July 2005, to see the magic 50.0 on my DIS.

That's made my day!!
