6 speed gearbox in AUDI A2!!!!!! HOT NEWS

He said that the 6 gearbox he installed, was only produced /sold fpr three months. And it is a VAG gearbox.
So, who finds out which one it is?

Hi mlarner
The info I have read indicates there are two gearbox types used on the
1.4 litre A2 models. Diesels are fitted with the 02J unit (good for 250Nm torque) and the petrols the 02T unit (200Nm)
I'm not sure if the 1.6 engine also uses the 02T box

Well, with a bit of digging, ETKA-scouring and ELSA-win browsing, I think I've found the gearbox used:

Transmission code, FSM, as used in the VW Polo 1.9TDi.

The box was only made for 1 month, from November to December 2003 and the final drive ratios are exactly as quoted earlier in this thread (2.955 and 2.407).

So, hopefully, that's that little problem solved, now where can I find one and who'll fit it!?

Cheers,

Mike

Just checked with VW uk and the gearbox is listed at £1,300 but there are no supplies in the uk. They will check with germany for availibility.

This does not include ancillaries

Hi Gexx
Keep us posted on the availability of the 6 speed box.
Thinks........Wonder how much discount we could get for a group buy of half a dozen gearboxes.....also wonder if VagParts could do them cheaper.

That price is for the BX version, which is a reconditioned 'box. To get that price, you need to hand in another FSM 'box, otherwise, there's a £580 surcharge.

The new price, is £1700 + VAT and there is one in the country.

Still.......

I am very tempted

I will do some research in germany, if i can import them through the company i save on the VAT (mehrwertsteur) (It would be nice if i can push the price below the £1,000)

That's if it is a straight swap, i understood from the german site that there was no problems with the shifter, as that is all done by cables etc

However the guy is still very secretive about his conversion

It would still be an awsome thing to have you know :D

Anyone done anymore digging on the 6 speed box - if I could order one, is it a straightforward swap or are there mods reqd??

I'd love a 6 speeder in mine! Now it's been re-mapped it's crying out for a higher gear!!

Robin,

You'd have your workshops booked out for a long while if you could offer this!!!

Well there is no new info and maybe never will be (from the German guy).

At least two things appear to be necessary:

- a custom made gearbox mount (TUEV-approved over here)
- shorter axle drive shafts with different links (should be found in the VAG product range)

So it won’t be a simple straightforward swap.

Costs will most likely exceed EUR 2000 in total.

Just comparing the 6 speed gearbox engine bay photograph off the German club site with my own TDi, it also appears that the clutch slave cylinder is in a different position as is the gearchange mechanism. The means additional work is required to adapt the hydraulic pipework to the slave cylinder and possibly to modified the gearchange cables. Other unknowns are the speedo calibration and reverse light switch wiring.

If anyone is still interested in doing the conversion there is a 'FSM' gearbox on German e.bay at the moment.

you won't get any more info from Kane on the German site, we've kicked him off after he ignored multiple requests to tone his language down.

I've just stumbled across a video on YouTube by Kane uploaded in 2015 but referring to his 2007 6 speed gearbox conversion:

Since 2007 there have been other solutions:

There is of course our solution of a completely refurbished gearbox with 6 speed upgrade as well for those interested in such a modification.

Details can be had here: http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?29731-Audi-A2-6-speed-upgrade-path

Important to note that we have in stock converted gearboxes for the 75 & 90 BHP TDi's and also for the FSi. This places us in the unique position of immediately satisfying demand for our upgrade and also serves as a source of spare units should the need arise to replace a defective gearbox or one that is under warranty.

The only 6 speed I'd want is a DSG box. I know there is one A2 in Europe that has had this done, but I think costs would be prohibitive now.
