75 TDI Commuter Special

Hi all, long-time admirer of the A2 and now faced with a 350-mile a week commute, the owner of a 52-plate TDI SE with 96,500 miles for £1300. I was drawn to it by the light blue cloth trim. Not sure what this blue is called, but its definitely not the same as my B7 in Mauritius. Handled the 160 mile drive home from Solihul to Torbay impeccably, even with the terrible downpour encountered after Exeter. A big compliment to these cars is they might have a small footprint, but they are as sure footed as my A4.

Not going to do much more than give it a good valet and wax polish, it is only intended to save miles on my cabrio.

I’m a 320 a week commute now. It’s less than it used to be. The only issue I’ve ever had with my reliable TDi75 has been tyres...

a little spare wheel was the start of a slippery slope for me... now TT alloys, full leather heated seats, iPod aux in, Dashcam and reversing mirror, rear cup holder and a wee TT mk1 steering wheel to fit over Christmas.

It’s a condition. Honestly.

Welcome to A2oc and A2 ownership. It is a lovely colour, nearly run in too. ? Apart from the usual aging car servicing be aware of the wishbones as your car is likely to have pressed steel ones which have been failing(sometimes soon after passing an Mot.

I'll definitely not change the seats, but might try and rectify the worn off graphics on the climate control buttons!

There are various solutions to this. I used Humbrol model paint and a very fine paintbrush and I think it looks great. Others have replaced buttons from other climate control units.

Surprised nobody has created matte finished vinyl stickers with clear sections to illuminate via the backlight.

Welcome.

They have, look on eBay,

A lot more information about sprucing up soft touch buttons in this recent thread...

Nice A2, love the blue colour ?

I wonder what it will cost you in fuel for the 350 miles ?

My 2.0T costs me around £80 a week - if I'm really sensible with it I've had as high as 44mpg on the drive into work with more downhill sections - but it was becoming untenable and moving isn't an option due to a settled school-age child.

If it's going to cost £80 a fortnight instead, I'll take it.

@B7and8Z

Back in your post #1 you mentioned colour. Are you aware that detail of this and much more information can found about your A2 by decoding the options code sticker, which is on the handbook inside cover if you have it or in the boot toolbox area somewhere, typically here shown in following link post #19. Post #1 also has an example of what it will look like.

I use this decoder but there are others..

Thank you, I am also hoping to enter my VINs into My Audi for more comprehensive details, especially on my B7. I obtained the 2007 cabriolet brochure for that one and saw the original owner had gone to town on it, stopping short of nav and cruise control. The A2 is much more modest, with the tape player - although it did come with a cassette auxiliary adapter!

Hi B7and8Z,
I currently do a 890 mile commute each week
& we are getting 360+ mile per 28 litre fill up at motorway speeds so you should get what you are looking for.
I’ve just coated my glass with Gtechniq glass
treatment & it is proving brilliant in torrential rain (almost enjoyable).
Car currently on 224000 miles so your new one should be just run in?

It's all very positive stuff regards the longevity of these cars! Impressive for their age in almost every category, no doubt about it.

We’ve had it since 2015 & apart from me missing the timing belt change with the inevitable breakdown we’ve enjoyed a reliable 100,000 miles in that time.
Usual consumable parts replaced as needed.

Is it the g4 or g5 or did you do the full g1 onwards?

Hi pinkythelabrat,
I used the G1 & G2 kit with astonishing results,
If you do a lot of miles it really helps with vision in the extreme conditions as well.
Also you can earn extra brownie points
at home by doing the shower screen/door.

Keith.
