78.8mpg. Audi A2 2005 1.4tdi

What tyre pressures do you recommend?
Which fuel? Supermarket?
supermarket fuel is rubbish and will leave all kinds of sludge in your fuel filter.

Shell is regarded as the benchmark and your car will run better for sure.

Given the low fuel consumption of the A2, I wouldn't use anything else.

I don't have a shell near to me. Any other recommendations?

Not really, I fill up when I pass a shell garage and sometimes go a couple of miles out of my way if I need to.

It's that good!...

Fill up with Tesco Momentum 99 octane fuel. It's their premium unleaded which is much cheaper than Shells V-Power which is 98 ron octane. Believe me the Momentum is better than the V-power and thats me who has used V-Power since it came out all those years ago

Not all supermarket fuel is rubbish although generally the 95 Ron stuff is. Tesco Momentum is best at 99 Ron and much cheaper than V-Power which is also a great fuel but which i won't use anymore because it's 1 ron octane less and too expensive for less performance.

Here is the thing about achieving these mpg figures, You become a rolling road block. I just can’t bring myself to do it. Im sure the car could top 70mpg.
After 15 years of ownership I topped 60mpg just this week. Typical 70mph with squirt and brake to keep things safe. That’s good enough in my opinion.

The price of V-Power isn't justified by the octane rating, but by the quality of the additives which supposedly keep your injection system clean in a way that other blends don't. Whether or not it works is up to individual drivers to decide.

Shell v power is certainly overpriced, but I'm talking diesel here.

Basic shell with the very occasional shot of redex keeps my Tdi sweet and the filters clean...

Ha, during the ten years we drove an A4 diesel (inappropriately on a lot of short journeys) we used to fill up with Shells V-Power diesel but found that BP Ultimate diesel was defornately best, you could really feel the difference but the BP stuff was so over priced more than even V-Power!

We were paying something like £1.45 a litre at it's peak about 4 years ago. I hate BP, Lol, all it's customers are getting ripped of by their overpriced fuel to pay for the Gulf of mexico oil catastrophe they are resposible for and paid Billions in fines that we are now paying for at the BP pumps.

Does anyone have any views on Costco fuel? Ive been using it for some time now and its giving slightly better MPG than Vpower. Appreciate not everyone lives near a Costco warehouse. Its Premium Diesel and the costs are significantly cheaper than Sheel/ BP/ESSO. In some cases its 15p per litre cheaper.

I didn't realise that some people were actually using VPower diesel, i cant justify the price difference and when its been run on "standard" diesel for 160,000 miles whats the point in changing.
Also i doubt that supermarket fuels leave sludge in your fuel filter too, if they did they would be out of business rather quickly. The difference between Asda and shell standard diesel is around 10 pence a litre, Asda around £1.25.

My local Tesco just had to shell out a load of money because they discovered the diesel tanks were full of water, and damaged a number of cars.
